for An Evening with Narcissus

I am certain I cannot add any new opinions because all the lovely reviewers before me have said it all. Yet again, I shall attempt to leave some praise worthy of the superb quality that this fic holds.

Your style is impeccable and your writing breath-taking. The characters are captured beautifully and I felt that same poignancy for Basil that I felt reading the book and watching the movie.

You have true talent and I hope that you have and will continue writing more gems such as these.

Brilliant work. Stunning, really!

I don't really know what to say other than what has already been mentioned by my predecessors, but I suppose a little redundancy never hurt anyone.

First off, kudos to you for pulling off the level finesse that was encompassed in actual book and, really, in all of Wilde's works. Nothing read forced or unnatural, which made the flow the story nearly as enjoyable as the content itself.

Characterizations were spot-on, too. The imagery you imbedded into Basil's night-long observations was superb and more than fitting, considering how much of a dedicated artist the man is. Loved the bits about the lighting and the autumnal effects on the setting and how it applied to the cast.

"He says you would be better without so many virtues."

"Yes, but I would be someone else."

Those two lines were really just the point where everything truly clicked in the story for me, personally. It was the pinnacle of characterization wherein Basil was entirely himself, as was Dorian with his critical (mock-)cynicism.

(Don't get me wrong: the wordplay throughout the story was marvellous in itself. That bit was just striking, I suppose.)

It was a shame Wotton had to go and ruin the party, but I suppose Basil has to retain some level of dignity lest he drive himself mad with guilt over what he would have done. Poor guy. Never had a chance.

Anyway, fantastic job. (:

Your prose and characterizations are perfectly consonant with Wilde's story. I especially enjoyed your use of light and reflections throughout your fic. Nicely done!

As a side note, I admit that I was extremely miffed by Lord Henry's untimely appearance and I intend to call him out for this offense!

How perfectly characterized! I have to admit I laughed when Lord Henry walked in on them, simply because they all reacted exactly as they should, which is to say somewhat ridiculously.

Woww sadface for Basil. All the characters were spot on. A great read, I really enjoyed it

Oh my poor dear Basil! You made me fall in love with him with this story, every word of it - inexpressibly lovely!33

Not to mention the dialogue seemed straight out of the book itself. And mind you, I don't mean only from that era, but rather you've captured the specific style - the dialogue, that is - that seemed to particular to Wilde. At the very least, this is the best rendition of it I've ever come across in fan fiction world c:

so good... but... oh, just too sad...

You're awful, you know...you made me feel all depressed!

Brilliantly written, however. But god, poor Basil...Basil doesn't get a break at all, does he? Not in the original book, nor in fanfic! Haha. I just love the last few lines. Stunning imagery.

This is the most wonderfully in-character fanfiction I have ever read. That is all.

Simply LOVELY~! You have captured all the tragic love and passion from Basil, and the naive selfishness of Dorian...! And I needn't mention how, though he was only present for the last bit, perfectly you got Henry's faint possessive nature...I love it...

Hello, I have recently been attempting to write a Dorian Gray fanfic of my own, having enjoyed the book during my degree in English Literature...and for inspiration decided to visit this site to see if anyone had already had my idea. I really enjoyed reading this, it was really well written and could almost have actually been in the novel (though Oscar Wilde would never have been allowed to publish it if he had..) So yeah, I just wanted to say I think this is great. I used to put things up on fanfiction myself but that was about 8 years ago and I'd like to think my writing's got a bit more sophisticated since then!

This was really good! I've just read the book so came on fanfiction to see if there was anything on it and I find brilliant writing.

Really, Lord Henry is a lecherous hump. He made me so mad in Oscar Wilde's novel, and your rendition of him has made me just as annoyed with him. Well done on capturing the character. I think I would actually like his character more if he didn't have such a sway over Dorian.

I feel so terrible for Basil. He was my favorite character (beside Dorian, oddly enough), and I was so sad when Dorian murdered him.

I honestly think they both would have been better off without Lord Henry...and better off if Basil had been a bit more bold with Dorian. Unconventional and living in secrecy in London? Maybe...but happier for it? I think so.

Well done!

Now I'm just hoping to see a "what if" for Dorian Gray and Basil...if I don't write one, myself.

Wow. First of all, your style is so much akin to Wilde's I'd think you know the guy! Haha. Everything about this peice is exceptionally beautiful. I think the world that comes to mind when reading this is "graceful"...but I don't know. I can't think too well after the shock I recieved towards the end. Marvelous. I love this book, and the pairing is so wonderful
