This story completely boggled my mind. I swear, I had absolutely no idea what Ciro was doing the entire time. Not even after he died. This is the most confusing fanfic I've ever read, but also the best, since I never saw any of that coming. It just really surprised me. I'm glad I spent the hours reading this. :)

That... was a great story. I've just finished it and now I have a lot of feelings, which I'm not sure how to phrase ) One of the things that stood out to me in the initial stages of reading: there was this massive contrast between wacky dialogue punctuation, which usually bodes ill for the quality of a story... and superb character writing. You're just so good at creating believable characters, you know? Chiara totally came to life for me, as did Helen, and Ciro, and... all of them, basically. And I love the fact that you've written strong female characters, which happens so rarely.
But I don't mean to say that your writing skill is limited to characters. Your description of places, from the Scorpia HQ to Disneyland rides, was also fantastic. As was the overall plot, riddles within riddles. I confess there were bits that I thought dragged on a bit (Alex and Yassen on the run got a teeeeeny bit repetitive), or that I didn't fully buy (would Alex really think anyone was "right" to kill millions, even for a moment?). But overall this story engaged me emotionally, and I emerged from it with admiration for you as a writer. So thank you very much for posting this - and I wish you all the best in your future endeavours, be they fanfiction or original writing!

D: Whoever made the stupid rule that you can only review on one chapter once is stupid. Don't you think? Now I have to go back a page to the previous chapter to copy and paste the review I had before. Ugh, what is with FF?
-
I decided to re-read the last chapter (Why? I was ranting to someone about how average their ending was and how amazing this one was).
And to be honest, Ciro fascinates me.
"life is full of pain and death . . . everyone is going to suffer death and suffer others dying. So why are you making a big deal of it?"
"we always think that things will get better. It's a silly hope, but we always aspire to the 'perfect' life."
"You've got to remember that I don't see much point in life, so since I'm going to die anyway, I'll do whatever amuses me until I go."
Ciro really is fascinating...
He's now one of my favorite villains.
Oh, and congrats on the 500 comments! You're awesome!

Wow, so this is the 500th review for canatarr4eva's Back in the Mix. First off, that right there is just crazy. 4ish years ago we stumbled on to this quirky little site that allowed closet authors like camnstarr to write about fandoms that they where inspired by. And so we joked around and uploaded a random little "crack fic" but then camnstarr decided she had an idea and she was gonna roll with it and I remember her saying it was gonna be a long haul, but she did it and I played techie and helped fix things and egged her on and she finished ... Like a year ago... So why are people still reading this and better yet caring enough to leave a comment. It honestly astounds us when people review on this story despite its formidable length and the fact that you are not gonna get any more of it and leave great reviews telling us how you loved it or that camnstarr is a great writer. 499 reviews and she appreciates every single one. She gets extremely excited and as we neared our 500th I was getting updates on how many left to go and here we are at the 500th. By now it is a tradition that I, techie, review every time we hit a new hundred number. And I realise that very few if any of the readers will actually look at this so I'm gonna say it to camnstarr cause untimely she's the one who this is for.
You my dear friend are amazing. 4 years ago you stared this thing and I was so proud you where gonna attempt this and I was even prouder that you actually finished it, it was tense for a bit near the end, 4 years took us through tons of stuff: arguments and life changing choices and a ton of laughs, and this thing, this silly little side project was something that you in particular never gave up on. So eti es it kept us talking, sometime it kept you up at night many times I made us laugh but it made me realise that... You are a great writer. And we joke that I've never read Alex rider and I've never read this fan fiction. But I know you are so good and i know this because before I uploaded every chapter I read through it. Now I'm not saying I read every word like these crazy 499 plus people did but I did read through it and then I uploaded it. I didn't understand a word of what was going on and a lot of the time late at night I was just checking you hadn't left in huge chucks of random sentences that where your working but I read enough and understood enough to know that you where as good as the guy whose characters you where using. And if 499 people teling you that you are amazing isn't enough then let me be the 500th to say it and you know that I don't say things to spare people's feeling and esspically to you I don't hold back for better or worse when I tell you things so believe me and all the people who have read this story when we say that writing is your thing. And I for one can't wait to see what you do with it next, whether you are writing a stupid skit for us and our friends to laugh about or an epic novel that you swear will never see the light of day I'm never more proud of you than when you're doing something i know that you love. And being your techie has had its perks (next time we talk ask me about how I used this fanfiction to get VIP seats in a comedy club in London) but the best is that you trust me to help you with something you've put so much of your time effort and talent into. All that's left to say is:
On behalf of the 499 people who came before Thank You.
And from me thank your for letting me be part of this experience and I hope we'll attempt something like this again someday. I love you and I'm so proud to be your Techie and your 500th review.
Yours

Stumbled across this fic somehow and spent a decent chunk of the day reading it - your chapters are very long indeed like you said.
The action was great, the characterisations of the Riders was both chilling and thrilling. Gregorovitch is such a hard character- for some reason fandom loves him, and he is "the ultimate badass" but I really liked that you did address the fact that he killed Ian.
Your resolution was great, the last phonecalls to check in and how you let Yassen and Alex really felt right to me.
I know you finished this a year ago but I really enjoyed the story and wanted you to know so..
All in all I'm really pleased I read it- It may be scared to wear jeans

This story... is incredible. I've been looking for a good AR fic for the last few weeks, wondering if I'd EVER succeed... and damn, have I succeeded. Wow. Just wow. It's got everything I love - action, intrigue, plot twists GALORE and some of the most fascinating characters I think I've ever encountered. And Ciro. Oh god, Ciro. Dare I say best villain ever? Most persuasive, charismatic, bizarrely RIGHT yet incredibly evil human being ever. If I was Alex, I think I would have been a crying mess on the floor about a thousand words into this chapter. I'm still trying not to think about his 'humanity is evil' speech because it's so painfully true. Would it really be right to kill a billion people to 'reset' the corruption of the human race? Is there actually some logic in that seemingly crazy plan? Is it even wrong to kill?
... Alex may have come out of that confrontation alive while Ciro didn't, but I don't think Alex won. It'd be really interesting to see the psychological effects a few months down the line. I can see Alex snapping. Damn, that'd be an amazing sequel - are you really sure you don't wanna write another epic? :D
Seriously though, thank you for an amazing read. I can see all the thought you've put into it, and your general writing style is as naturally engaging and thrilling as Horowitz's. Your characterisation is fantastic; you've somehow written the characters just as they are in the books, and yet taken them deeper and stronger and more real without changing them at all. Yassen just made me squeal with his Yassenness several times. (Ciro made me squeal with his sheer evil. But I've raved about Ciro already.) I loved the moral ambiguity - I think you, like me, are fascinated by how people are neither good nor bad but made up of the endless little nuances in between. For me, that's what makes a character interesting, and you sure as hell had a lot of interesting characters in there. I barely even noticed lots of them were OCs, I felt like I knew them already. Good job. Great job.
Oh, and character death-wise? You are brilliant, but cruel. Enough said, for any newbies who might be reading this review. CRUEL. Again, this brings me to broken Alex sequel, pleasepleaseplease...? If you ever do choose to write something, please look me up. I'd be very very very interested in getting involved, even if it was just as a mad cheerleader bouncing around on the sidelines.
Thank you again, and congrats on finishing this gargantuan epic! You are a wonderful human being!
