While it is true the clones would not be able to help much with A-rank and S-rank techniques, we all saw how quickly Naruto learned his own original technique Rasenshuriken (definitely S-rank) and then mastered it later on. Anko said that it may take 2 years to master a B-rank technique and this is clearly a bullshit... Unless by mastering it you mean doing it without handseals which is impossible for higher ranked techniques as they have too many hand seals...
It always surprised me how little Naruto actually learned on his 2,5-3 years training trip with Jiraiya and then how powerful he became in the following year after he was told the secret to Shadow Clones...
I find it ridiculous that Jiraiya didn't reveal the secret to him sooner on his training trip and didn't even teach him any of his useful jutsus like that swarm technique and the other where he enforces his hair with chakra...
