Oh, my goodness, Erin, I loved this story! I could just picture John's inundation of shock when he heard Elizabeth's voice that turned to joy as he remembered a past that was better and happier than the present. That joy finally gave away to despair as he struggled to figure out how to say goodbye. I especially loved these few lines: "She was going to cut the transmission. A wild desperation seized him. He couldn't let her go just yet." And the ending was so powerful and resonant. So many thoughts were whirling around in my head, and I just kept thinking, "If this reality isn't the right one, then where is it?" John's sudden revelation really opens up a whole new realm of ideas to explore.
I wish that this reality had been shown on-screen. *Sighs* Very fine work, Erin; I really enjoy reading all of your writings. :)

Great story, Im watchin the episodes on , Im on Broken Ties. The episode right before The Daedalus Variations. So now im gonna have to imagine this happening lol. I still am tryin to find season 1-4 so i can watch it from the beginning. Anyway great story :-)

I followed this with relative ease. I'm assuming they didn't have the problem with the person getting sick and their face sort of coming out of their head b/c they hadn't been there for too long. The only thing I missed that I'd hoped you were going to put in there was a flash to Elizabeth's mind on the "new planet?" Atlantis. She could be thinking and wondering if this 'new and mysterious' John had been married to her as she was to the John in this reality. (Think Sam and Jack. I mean really, it wouldn't be cheating and I'd bet there was an alternate reality where they were married (think "Forever", at least I think that was the name (my fav fanfic of yours))

I stopped watching Atlantis mid-season 4, but this was a wonderful, if heart-breaking, story. Loved John's realization at the end. Thanks for posting.

Oh my...the end took my breath away...and the ability to see clearly. This is an amazing piece, short and yet very, very poignant. I love the idea that John has that flash of a thought that their reality might be the wrong one, that's a greast idea for something bigger. But I do love this just the way it stands, perfection as always my dear friend.
