I very rarely read TOS fics simply because I've had less exposure to it than I have any of the other series, but I *have* seen all the movies, and this was wonderful. I hope, someday, that your muse will continue it. But if not, I am content with the fabulous sense of character you've captured here. Kirk & Spock's voices were as close to perfection as logically possible, and I'm glad I made an exception and settled in for this read. Another winner, my friend. :)

"The fact that Spock was alive and well and standing just a few meters away could not wash away the sight of him crumpled in the radiation chamber, his life rapidly fading from him. Jim closed his eyes against the memory.
He'd lost something of himself that day. Thank God he'd gotten it back."
This passage gave me shivers. Death, no matter how well ST and TBTB manage to cheat it, should never be simple or easy or quickly forgotten. Thank you for paying tribute to a dear friend's sacrifice long after the funeral music has faded.

I like the thoughtfulness of your writing and hope you update soon. There is a lot to be said for the small, quieter things that have to do with inner thoughts of our favorite characters.
