I am not a fan of the Doctor so I can't comment about characterization or anything specific to the fandom but I thought it was very well written, with the exception of the bracketed bits. It's a personal thing, I'm not a fan of brackets being used in fiction. I find that they tend to kill the mood and remind the reader that they are in fact just reading.
