You know, as I was reading this story, there were two things that amused me. First is the story itself, you succeeded in making this story entertaining, that's for sure. Not to mention that your writing style is quite well. Then I was amused that I was enjoying it, I'm a Catholic born in a country where almost everyone has a religion, Christian or not (studying in a Catholic school too).

But as much as I'm supposed to proclaim the Word of God to everyone and all that... the quote you placed at the beginning of the story made sense. I'm impressed that you're going to try to read the Bible. Not many people do, even those that do don't understand it (and yes, the quote was right, sometimes, I don't think even the priests and ministers do). Well good luck on reading it. May God's light shine upon you (whatever you make of that).
