Poor Merope seems so desperate and helpless. I liked the way she tries to give hereslf some sense of grandeur by wearing the snake, as if she feels that if she can't do magic, she must show some outward sign of being the great descendent of Slytherin she has always been told she should be.

I really loved this, it was amazing! Very beautifully described, as usual, and I loved the way you had Merope handle the snake - you just described her actions, quite straight to the point, which made appear quite numb, but her frustration was also quite well conveyed. We got the impression that she would do anything for something to HAPPEN, to see that she has magic, that she's not just stupid and helpless, standing before the snake like a fool, like her father and brother keep telling her. Her happiness at the end was bizarre, and yet oddly fitting - it was as though wearing the snake this way compensated the lack of magic, as though it somehow symbolized that she IS a heiress of Slytherin… The end with Morfin's entrance was really striking, brilliantly done! I loved this, go you against writer's block ;)

Ooh, this was excellent. You had Merope's voice down perfectly, and Morfin's behaviour, so this read like it was right out of the book.
Also (this may be me reading way too far into this) - the snake biting its tail... as in the symbol for infinity? As in, things will always be like this for Merope?

The dream expressing her anxiety was brilliant. Perfect. No syntactical errors either, YAY! Though you should have developped on her waking thoughts more. You definately have potential!

I like all the ceremony and tradition here - and your explanation for what makes a pureblood sounds very medieval and like it fits perfectly into tradition-based pureblood society!
and at the end - I was expecting something horrible to happen to Squibs but this is truly horrible! And it says a lot about other Hogwarts headmasters/professors that they would be perfectly okay having a forest full of abandoned babies right next to the castle, and not bother to go in and save them! D:

It's the last line that really makes it - it seems like the breaking-a-door-when-you're-justifiably-angry-about-a-perceived-injustice sort of accidental magic would be pretty common and isn't really evil...but then Tom realizing that this is a power and wondering if/how he can use it to deliberately harm people is what makes him Voldemort!

Lizz, I really, REALLY liked this one.
I liked the short, kind of clippy sentences at the end. The length of the piece was perfect.
Tom is wonderfully characterized. Superbbbbb. (Isn't that word awesome?)
I love the title as well, how it connects to the door as well as (maybe?) Tom's mind... how he can't even think correctly, I guess. He's cracked too.
Anyways, I loved it. :)
