Ooh, you posted this! I have to chuckle at such a simple yet perfectly in-character explanation for the whole mess. Especially the bit about how everyone else just hires adventurers. :P You know, the failure rate on gnomish inventions is a necessary counterweight to their tremendous power. Should the gnomes ever work the success rate up to 20%, Deathwing would end up looking like a level five sheep in comparison. From that point of view, maybe blowing ourselves up now and then is the price that must be paid for the preservation of the entire world.
