I think Edward might be chipping away at Bella's walls. There was definitely truth to what he said to Bella. Bella's intensity in high school did scare him off, especially since he was not ready to receive her attention.

I loved this chapter. I like that they're finally talking about it - or at least that we're seeing them talk about it. his reasoning was irrational but realistic. if anything I like this because the characters are so real.

"Kate seems off and aloof lately, and I'm guessing she's currently seeing someone. She comes home late at night and goes out even before I'm awake, and I have no chance to ask her how she really is. I guess she doesn't want to talk about it, then."
I really hope we won't have a repeated (in some way) history - I mean that she [Kate] isn't seeing Edward but Garrett. Please let it be Garrett!

Thank goodness for your note on the bottom that they're not going to jump into a relationship. It must have been confusing to Bella to hear Edward's confession about thinking about her practically 24/7.
