for A Night With Jezebel

Ah, I likes, what man has not fallen for a woman he couldn't have? Yes, he needed that, he never got any on the show. Had to be why he was so uptight.

I didn't have time to review this fic before, but I can't help writing a few words, because it was brilliant. I never regarded the characters in this fandom as historical figures and now even don't see them as characters from TV show any more. So for me it's just a story about two people, about man and woman. He is suffering from loneliness and desperately wants to return love he once felt, even if this love now is just imaginable, wants to share his tenderness and affection with somebody, even if she is nothing but a common prostitute. She is used to please men, making it her job, but for one night she experienced pleasure herself (and maybe something more than pure pleasure). But she understands that she can't give him anything equal in return and sacrifices her possible happiness for the sake of man who made her feel love. And by doing so she leaves him as lonely as he has been before. Very, very good. I think even professional writer could produce something like this and not to be ashamed. Yes, I am absolutely serious.

Okay, I confess that I read this hoping for a sweating, bare chested Cromwell (who doesn't wish for that?), but I was so pleasantly surprised. I loved the slow build up, the flashes to his past. In a strange way, he and Jezebel have a sort of foreplay, and a real connection, so the reader almost forgets he's technically a *john* and she's technically a prostitute. You humanize Cromwell really well; I wish the series would have done that more. He always seemed so lonely on the show, so in need of affection and tenderness. The ending was well done (do we get to learn her real name?).

Wow. I wasn't sure how much I would like Cromwell spending the night with a prostitute, but I was pleasantly surprised.

I understand Cromwell's need for comfort and he gave Jezebel some love, which, sadly she lacked. Cromwell will always love Elizabeth and even if he feels guilty for the night he had with Jezebel and may feel unfaitful to his wife, I believe that he needed to give love to someone. So, in a way, I feel his actions were somewhat justified.

I admit that I was proud of him, at first, when he tried to back out, but then once the deed was done, I did not feel like it was "dirty." Strange. And I'm ultra-moral, ask anyone. So, consider it a compliment that I wasn't about to read Cromwell the "right act" after reading this! :p

Thanks, I enjoyed this! :)
