My rationalization for why all three of the kids ended up Sired two days before the Harvest is that Buffy's absence wasn't an isolated event. That there is a butterfly effect going on because of what kept her from arriving Sunnydale that has subtle effects on the rest of this timeline. (Which is another way of saying I want a little wiggle room for how this all plays out.) That isn't to say that there won't be some really non-subtle effects on the timeline due to the Slayer subtitutes.
Luke was kind of a no-brainer for the role of Vessel since he was the most powerful of all the Master's children. It's true that if he had been killed before he was confirmed as Vessel then it wouldn't have done much good since the Master could have simply chosen someone else. Killing him after he was confirmed but before he could feed was the plan because it would shut down the Harvest before it could really begin. That's not exactly how it played out, but the Harvest didn't get a chance to happen anyway.
I'm not answering any questions reguarding the identity of the guy in the mask because I intend to reveal that at the end of the story.
I freely acknowledge that this story could use some work, and I've finally gotten off my lazy rear and started revising chapters. Once the revisions to the existing chapters are complete I'll begin reposting them and "Fighting Fire With Fire" will resume.

I really like the concept that you have been going, and the idea of a "what if" world. So I'm a little confused because didn't the vessel not get chosen until the harvest? In that case killing Luke wouldn't help would it? Also, did they get killed pre-series, before Darla and the other "young and stupid" vamp took them? Because if so then Buffy coming wouldn't change anything for them. And if it happened when they were taken then your timelines are off as the Harvest happened the next day, not in 2 days. Also if that were the case Xander wouldn't be vamped as he didn't follow them without Buffy telling him to. Just some thoughts but I really liked it. I'd love it if you'd continue it, I want to see where its going! :P I'm curious about who the guy in the mask is. My only thought is that it is Xander from the universe we know and love.

Wow! This is a very nice Christmas present! I've been getting packed and ready to leave on a trip tomorrow and this is a nice present to take with me.

I decided to look this over again and I have a few things to say.
1.) This is too good of an idea to have only four reviews.
2.) You kind of promised a final chapter before you set it aside

I liked this. Especially the way that Angel seems to be settling in as a mentor. Maybe if Xander insists on not calling him Angel he can suggest using his last name and 'Mister' as if he were any other teacher. The Watcher's council is going to be nasty about this, I hope our heros in training survive. As I said I like this and see no reason for you to downtalk it. (And where is Buffy?)
