A few errors like: Up ward instead of upwards, and breathe instead of breath. This story does seem very original but the characters seem to be a bit boring and without personality. So far, this is going to be very interesting in terms of how the rest of the story is going to pan out.

Curiosity killed the cat...maybe. I like your use of a few of the synonyms for mermaids. It's also interesting that Ariel seems aware that her kind lure men to their deaths, something that's omitted in Disney's "Little Mermaid." How might one reconcile Ariel with the mermaids of Whitecap Bay?
