I do like both of these chapters. The only thing is that there are a few sentences that don't really make sense. They interrupt the 'flow' and make you have to re-read it a couple of times before you can extract anything out of it.
Doesn't happen a lot, but it is kind of noticeable, especially when things are rolling along and then wham! You hit something like that and it kind of de-rails things for a moment.

Not bad... a few spelling errors, but nothing really major.
Just so you know, anything that deviates from the the way things were seen on the screen is Alternate Universe, even if it's as small as giving a character a visible injury, like a small cut on Tommy after the Samurai fan man slams him into the tree during the 1st season.
Anyway, if you want to get technical, it's 'A few years later'... not several, which generally means 3 years. As far as Timeline's go, I don't think that Forever Red would happen until shortly before the Island explodes. Not criticising what you have, but here's my reasoning for that:
There are a couple of episodes where it talks about the Rangers being towards the tops of their classes, so while Tommy might make a few bonehead moves at times, I don't think that he's a 'dumb jock'. So, if he worked at it, taking at least 16 credits a term, he could easily have gotten a bachelor's in physical geology or something similiar like archaeology that would correlate into a Master's and then a PhD... At 16 credits a term, he could have had his Bachelor's in 3yrs. Most Master's programs take 2 or less years to complete, but saying he took a year and a half that's only 4.5 yrs post Turbo.
Now, that would put you right around the time of Forever Red, which means he could have just been accepted into the PhD program and was taking some time to relax when the FR mission comes up. Then a month or two later, he can start his PhD. I figure he's been working on that at least 6mo to a year before TDI explodes. Give you a few years after TDI (That Damn Island) and you've given him time to defend his dissertation and gain his teaching credentials so that he can legally teach school (thank you very frakkin much No Child Left Behind).
So you're timing works well... And yeah, sometimes more details about that stuff from the actual show would have been helpful.
What a lot of people forget is that there should have been 2 other Red Rangers... can't forget the Rock man (even though in real life Steve was unable to be reached because he was MOVING... some people have nerve [just kiddin])...
