WELL talk about a Debbie Downer there ;) lol I'm just kidding! :D I'll get the few jokes I have out of the way before I actually review...
Okay, when you talk about his socks going on the floor, the only guy I can picture, even if he looks nothing like Balthier, is the older fuck on Up :) Most adorable movie ever, but he does NOT suit Balthier's personality... That's just abnormal...
:) I like that you kept Fran pretty in character. She doesn't speak a lot, and I can see that for the both of them, and Balthier seems the way he would be a long time ago - except, older and wiser... You did a good job portraying like an... aged version of him. I guess that's what you were supposed to do though :P Fran makes me giggle because she still talks with her Vera accent, and still with awkward word choice :)
It's kinda sad though, that he just wakes up in the morning, and doesn't even get to read the damned paper! I would be depressed... She'd have to drag his dead ass outside... How would you even react though? What would you even do? Years after leaving the only people you have, you find that one hume who you can tolerate and be with... And then you give everything for a life of lust and adventure... Then when you finally settle down in a small little house to live a lonely life with him, knowing you're going to be alive like 100+ years longer than him... What are you supposed to do? Would she stare at him for awhile, and wonder why? Or would she just like, get into her whole like 'wood' thing, where he'd still be with her? Or I'm just... confused (not because of your writing, just in general) of what she would do... :( Sad day! Maybe she'll go hang out with Vaan? Because I'm sure he's not dead :P
It's sweet and short and I like that he had a pretty peaceful death - so contrasting from the on-the-go Balthier that we all know and love in the game. I love how in the reflection of Fran's thoughts, she says that she wants to be remembered NOT as a love stricken person because of Balthier - indicating he's still probably got charm on people when he's old, even if its in a completely different way.
I read something the other day about how there's a side quest as your running around at the beginning of the game in Rabanastre, about a love sick man trying to be with his Vera lover, and one or the other says that even though nobody else does, he(or she, depending on who said it) believes in their love, because they saw a sky pirate with his Vera partner ;) And yours just kinda seems to tie in with that... I love it!
Keep writing this adorable stories! I wish that you still write stuff that wasn't awkward Jack and Rai :) I would so read that shit... You mad bro?
I ain't even mad... ;)
Keep up the wonderful work! And I LOVED it!
