Another menacing installment, but I especially liked the Castle/Slaughter section and "the depths of debauchery to which humanity can sink." And Castle daydreaming about her like we all know he does. The lines around his mouth tighten. "My job is to help *you* deal with your issues, not give you a one-size-fits-all fixit." – Oooh, don’t piss off your therapist, Katie! LOL.
She hasn't had any coffee since he left. - UGGGGGH!
His tone is stern, almost harsh, and it startles her into looking at him again. – Whoopsie! Getting yelled at by the principal. LOL.
How he's loved you. That's not just a switch that someone can flip." – I LOVE THAT. That he echoes Martha’s words. AWESOME.
Burke shakes his head. "It doesn't work that way. As a man who's been in love, take it from me: it doesn't work that way." – Awww!
She closes her eyes, Castle's concerned face swimming in her vision, the shape of his mouth forming the words. – Awww again!
He does appeal to the writer's sense of storytelling. He has tales, fantastic tales of life on the streets, of the depths of debauchery to which humanity can sink. Each story makes Castle's skin crawl. And then he asks for another. – I like this.
It's exciting. Thrilling really. It opens his eyes to the possibilities. He doesn't need Nikki Heat. Sure, she's been a good character, and she's done great things for his career in a lot of ways, but maybe it's time to move on. – I HATE YOU, CASTLE!
He shuts his eyes, letting out a deep sigh, and then it's her scent that fills his nostrils, her hands kneading his shoulders, her soft skin pressed against his own in a setting that suddenly much resembles his bedroom. His eyes pop open, and he leans forward, almost doubled over as he balances with his hands on his knees. He can't get away from her. He has to get away from her. – BLEGOHJHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Nooooooo!
Ryan - Ryan, of all people - slamming him into a wall hard enough that his bones rattle, all trace of humor missing from his usually warm blue eyes, asking him what the hell he thinks he is doing, hanging around with that guy when his place is with them - with her. – YEAH! GO RYAN!
The next day, when white hot pain lances through his shoulder and all he can think before he blacks out is that Kate wouldn't have let this happen, he wishes he had listened. 1) OHHHH CRAAPPP. 2) DAMN STRAIGHT, MR. CASTLE. AND DON’T YOU FORGET IT.

Also - Ryan being the one to try and knock some sense into Castle? I did not see that coming but I loved it - sweet, unassuming lil Ryan - he's such a gutsy guy and so loyal - of course he'd be the one to try and bring their family back together :)
And yes, Castle's line of thinking is absolutely right - Kate would never let him get hurt like stupid Slaughter would :\

Oh my gosh, you had Ryan do something! I'm completely flailing over this because goodness, I've been wanting that to happen for so long! I can see it, totally see him getting up in his face and it is the best mental image. I need to see that on TV. Ryan can turn icy when the situation calls for it and I so badly want to see an icy Ryan.
Okay, back to the actual review...sorry, got a little caught up.
That Kate you gave us? The best Kate I've read in a long while. It was short and sweet but man, was it her. It was everything that she is in those sessions... you gave us the sort of bottled, understated desperation she keeps under wraps until those sessions.
'She scoffs. "Apparently he's not my partner anymore, so you probably know him as well as I do at this point."
"Kate."

I hear that tone way too often and I can see her reaction perfectly. It's a tone she needs to hear. Heck, it's a tone they both need to hear. Probably from each other.
Castle has already killed me with what he's attitude was like last episode, but ugh, you've got him killing me again... but then you have him kinda hurting so I'm pretty okay with the whole justice side of things (because I'm awful like that).
