I really like this story so far. I loved the way you made use of some of the little details, such as the rose, or Katniss' silent wish to ride the elevator again, and how things evolve differently with Gale's presence. I also really liked how you didn't just make him a mirror-version of Peeta, while also managing to keep to the original storyline, which seems to be a rare occurrence in fics
With the involvement of Gale, I find it quite believable that Katniss' behavior would be completely different as well, and that she would be more open and accessible. While she hardly knew Peeta, Gale is someone she actually knows, and one of the few people close to her, so that there would be no distrust, and keeping a careful distance would probably seem fairly pointless as well, since there would be no real hope to reach any level of indifference between them at this point anyway. And when there already was a deeper connection to begin with, it's easy to imagine that a dire situation like that would drive them closer more quickly, and make things between them develop at a faster pace the way they do in your fic.
Now I'm really looking forward to how this will change the situation in the arena, since the two already are a good team that is well-accustomed to working together, and there's far more trust and understanding between them to work with. I find myself hoping they'll be able to apply that to their advantage and perhaps manage to avoid or faciliate some things in the games - with Peeta, there was always this incompatibility and lack of understanding between them that made it impossible to work together effectively. It seemed to me that most of the time, they were doing things seperately; or, on those few occasions that they weren't actually each on different ends of the arena, either conflicting, or doing nothing at all XD
