You almost drove me to tears. That means you set the mood and described the feelings well, especially about the countries' decline. I really hope they didn't die. I like how you used the snowflakes and weather to help portray the scene.
The grammar errors, such as sentence fragments and run-ons, confused me at times. Fortunately, I was still able to get the general idea.
