Very well done. I can never picture a happy homecoming for Hawkeye, no matter how much I try.
I've almost written a story somewhat like this several times. (I say somewhat because it wouldn't be a happy homecoming full of sunshine and roses, there'd be a war widow... A friend of his from before the war with a small child who never met his father.) I keep bailing on it because I don't know where the story would end.

You did a great job with this story! :) Your characterization of a post-war Hawkeye is similar to how I would imagine him to be once he finally returned to Crabapple Cove. I think that it would take a serious jolt to his system to get him to deal with the psychological after-effects of Korea; the idea of possibly losing his wife and child is a believeable scenario for him to begin the process of healing. Although I prefer a kind and caring Hawkeye, I think it is important to show the deeper side of his personality that he so frequently hides with his jokes. Based on this story, I would be interested in reading another of your M*A*S*H stories.
