23 Chapter 1: Questions

This story is based on the fact that in the first volume, when no one was around, L was more human. He stood straight. And sat normally (think of the Lind L Tailor incident).

Misa catches a glimpse of this while she is on her mission to find out his name and starts thinking differently about the L ( Don't worry, he'll still be our L! Oh, and Misa may be a lot smarter...)

Chapter 1: Questions.

Misa was bored. Just bored to death. She was currently in the Kira Investigation Headquarters under tight surveillance and could do nothing but read magazines, phone some friends or watch TV, but she couldn't go shopping. In short she was bored. She wanted something to do. She couldn't go to work either. Making a movie outside tends to be hard when it was a cold, rainy day of September.

'maybe I can do something to help Light...' She thought.

because her run-in with the shinigami Rem at Yotsuba she new that Light was Kira. She liked Light even more because of that.

And, although she shouldn't, she knew Ryuzaki was L. She really shouldn't know this but she wasn't as stupid as everyone thought.

During her confinement she could remember herself trying to bite her tongue. But the machinelike voice that had been speaking to her for some time already had yelled: "Watari make sure she can't bite her tongue off." And then an elderly kind voice had replied: "Yes sir." And then she had been gagged.

When she met Ryuzaki she had realised she had met him before, but then as one of Light's friend's. He had a her believe that the voice in the computer was L and that he himself worked for L. But she knew that one assistant was an elderly man. And since L was a mysterious person, it would be more logical to have one assistant.

So the fact that Ryuzaki was a young man was in itself was strange.

But when she saw him investigate she soon realised he was even to Light in his reasoning ability, and light was smart. Top of his class. But to be certain she had once asked him how smart Ryuzaki was...

Flashback.

Misa came walking into the investigation room. The room was cold and the men present were working the Kira case in silence. Matsuda looked up from his work to greet her.

"Good morning Misa-Misa. How's it going?"

The girl smiled at the young man. "I'm fine." She said happily.

She then, more silent then usual, strode over to Light and instead of throwing herself on him she simply whispered something to him, so only they could hear.

"Hey Light..." She whispered to get his attention.

Light looked up from his work and glanced at her. She was less obnoxious then normally, and he liked that. Out of gratitude for her peacefulness he answered her seriously in the same hushed tone.

"Yes Misa?"

"I've bin meaning to ask you something... how smart would you say is Ryuzaki?"

Light was surprised, to say the least. She practically never spoke nor questioned about the raven haired man he was chained to.

"Why do you ask?" Light asked, fairly eager to know.

"Well..." Misa started thoughtfully. "... I was curious and since you are one of the smartest humans in the world, I thought I could get a good image of Ryuzaki's intelligence from your answer."

Light understood her logic. "Well, although he may be weird..." He started. "If anything, he is equal to me in everything. If not that, he's better then me."

Misa seemed to be thinking deep for a moment before replying a simple "OK." And then strolled back to the elevator.

End of flashback.

So this made her practically certain that this man was L.

'Let's see... if he's L... then finding out his name would help Light! Okay, Operation find L's name starts now!'

with that in mind she went downstairs to the floor where the investigation took place.

The said Investigation was going slow. They had a lead on yotsuba but now they were waiting for something to happen. So while waiting, Light decided to get to know the detective he was chained too a bit better.

"Say Ryuzaki, can I ask you something?"

The said man, who was currently hunched over in his arm chair and eating a cake, looked up at Light.

"Sure you can, Light-kun." He replied turning back to the table in front of him, wich was filled with sweets.

"Why do you always eat sweets?" Light asked. It didn't really interest him, but he had to start somewhere.

"It tastes good." Ryuzaki replied, not taking his eyes of the cake he was currently eating. "Why do you ask?"

Light shrugged. "Just curious."

Suddenly Misa came strolling into the room and walked over to Ryuzaki and Light.

"Hey... Ryuzaki, Light how is it going?" She asked the two geniuses.

"It's going slow, Misa-san." Ryuzaki replied, dumping a sick amount of sugar cubes in his coffee.

"Make that a standstill." Light said clearly bored out of his mind taking a long sip of his tea.

Misa smiled sweetly at the two men. "How about the three of us go hit the city for a day?"

Several things happened at this moment:

Everyone stopped working, Matsuda slipped and crashed on the ground with the pile of papers had been carrying, Light got a couching fit because of his tea, and Ryuzaki fell of his chair.

When everyone had recovered enough to speak, they all yelled the same:

"WHAT?!"

Misa sighed. "You two need a break, you work the longest after all, and I need to go outside. You aren't gonna solve this case half dead." She stated.

They all looked to Ryuzaki, who seemed to consider this and replied after some time.

"Fine... but you do realise that Light-kun and I will still be chained together, don't you?"

Everyone was shocked. He agreed?!

"I do, and you two being as smart as you should be able to come up with a good excuse, right?" She glanced at Light and Ryuzaki. Both nodded.

Ryuzaki looked up from the chair he had crawled back into towards Light.

"Is that all right with you Light-kun?" He asked.

Light snapped out of his daze and answered. "Sure... I could use a break."

The other task force members did not object. Although it was normal for Ryuzaki to have bags under his eyes, Light now had bags under his eyed that were almost as worse.

He could use the fresh air.

With this they walked out of the investigation headquarters towards the district where all the fun stuff was.

"So what do you want to do first?" Misa asked excited.

Light shrugged but Ryuzaki replied.

"I'd like to go to an arcade Misa-san." And so they all strolled of towards where Misa said the could find one.
