Chapter 3: The First Kick

Spencer and Gabriella had it all planned to the last detail. Spencer would go in and tell his mother that he was now married and then Gabriella would come in a bit later and they'd tell Diana the news that would hopefully make her happy. Spencer twisted his wedding band nervously.

"Spencer." His mother said as she came up to him. "It's good to see you again. What's wrong? And why do you have a wedding -"

"Mom... I'm married." He couldn't keep it in any longer. He'd been in love with Gabriella for a long time. "She's a good woman, you'd approve of her." Spencer blurted out. His mother looked curiously at him.

"How long?" She finally asked.

"I got married yesterday. She's someone I fell in love with a long time ago but didn't want to admit it." It was true and was part of the reason he took Dilaudid because Gabriella still haunted his dreams after he took it for the last time.

"She's not by any chance...Gabriella Chambers, is she?" His mother had a smile on her face as she asked.

"Yeah, mom..." Spencer replied as Gabriella came in.

"Gabriella...Spencer was just telling me that he'd upped and married you yesterday." Diana announced as Gabriella sat down next to Spencer. Gabriella was wearing a maternity shirt and skirt set that accentuated her pregnancy curves nicely.

"We have another surprise for you, Diana." Gabriella said, biting her bottom lip. "Spencer and I...well, we had a reason for marrying in haste."

"What is it?" Diana asked.

"I'm pregnant." Diana sighed in relief. At least it wasn't what she thought it was. She'd thought Spencer would never settle down the way he was carrying on in that FBI job of his. She thought he had been gay at first...but his hasty marriage to Gabriella negated that theory. They were happy and in love from what Diana could tell and she loved Gabriella like if she was her own daughter, so she was happy that Spencer had married her and was starting a family with her.

"So how many grandchildren can I expect from you two?" She asked. Even though she didn't want another child, she was hoping for plenty of grandchildren.

"Spencer and I haven't really discussed more children as of yet, Mrs. Reid." Gabriella said nervously, Spencer's hand joining hers on her abdomen."Spencer was drugged the night of the conception."

"Well something good came out of that." Diana said with a smile. "You two are married and going to have a baby."

"Actually mom, Gabriella's having twins." Spencer corrected.

Diana looked at her son and Gabriella for the longest time. "Twins? That...That's unexpected." She finally murmured. "I'm happy for you and Gabriella, Spencer. Does Marcie know?" Marcie was the name of Gabriella's mother.

"No, and we would appreciate it if she were kept in the dark, Mom. As far as Gabriella and I know, she's still married to the jerk that raped Gabriella when she was sixteen." Diana nodded.

"I'll be silent as the grave." she promised.

Gabriella was fixing dinner for her and Spencer when she felt the first kick. "Spencer... one of the twins kicked!" Spencer put down his Criminal Profiling For Dummies book and rushed into the kitchen. He placed his hand on her belly. While he was still freaked out, he didn't let it show. "Spencer...why did you cut your hair?" she asked.

"I wanted to." He stated simply.

"I loved running my hand through your hair at night." Gabriella admitted softly. Spencer kissed her. Gabriella was so responsive that it doubled Spencer's primal instincts around her. He really loved her even though she talked too much and hummed whenever she was happy.

"Guys shouldn't have long hair and you know that, Gabriella." he teased. "Was it a comfort thing?" Gabriella nodded and Spencer winced.

"It was more to help me get to sleep than anything else because I still can't believe we're in love, married and going to have twins." Spencer smiled at his wife. She wasn't the only one that couldn't believe that.

"When I was under the influence of that date rape drug, my mind forced me to re-evaluate our friendship and made me realize I wanted more. I want you more than I've ever wanted anything or anyone in my life, Gabby." She smiled back at him.

"Well whoever put that drug in your system should've given me two years...cause eventually I would've found some way of seducing you." Spencer laughed.

"Not if I had beaten you to it." He quipped.

"Oh please, Spencer...you still get tongue – tied any time you are around women, so don't give me that crap. I wear the pants in this family."

"Let's discuss that in depth, shall we? I'm not the one pregnant, am I?" Gabriella's jaw dropped as Spencer put the pan on a different burner. "And I still can sweep you off your feet." Spencer did so despite Gabriella's protests.

"What about dinner?" she asked.

"I'll fix something later." he promised. He carried her into their room and shut their door.

Spencer looked at a house that was closer to the BAU than their small apartment. The house was larger than what they needed and they could easily pay the mortgage payments without getting into debt. He had decided to start making payments but then had been told that someone had bought the house outright. So he was bummed when he came to work.

"Congratulations. Here." Rossi said, throwing him a key. Spencer looked at Rossi, puzzled."Your wedding gift...I didn't have time to buy you and Gabriella a wedding present – So, I bought the house instead."

"How can I..." Spencer started to ask.

"If you want to pay me back, Reid...don't mention it to Gabriella. She didn't want a bridal shower and probably won't want a baby shower. I would've given you two the deed and the key at the shower anyway." Spencer knew his wife would have a conniption fit so he opted to keep his mouth shut.

"Thanks, Rossi." Spencer smiled at the older agent.

Somehow JJ, Garcia, and Prentiss managed to throw Gabriella and Spencer a combination of a wedding, homecoming and baby shower today. Spencer chuckled, forgetting that his blindfolded wife could hear him. "Where are we going, Spencer?" She asked with a healthy curiosity. "And does it have to do with the fact that our stuff is packed to move?"

"I can't tell you the former." Spencer mumbled. "As for the second one, bingo." As he said this, Spencer pulled into the driveway of their new home. He helped her up the steps and to the door.

"Surprise!" Everybody yelled. Spencer took off his wife's blindfold. Everyone from the office was there, especially Chief Strauss, who genuinely looked somewhat uncomfortable among the others.

"What's this about?" She asked, looking at her husband. Spencer blushed as Rossi handed her a small but flat box. Looking confused, she took the gift.

"Here." He said gruffly. Gabriella frowned, then opened the gift.

She pulled out the paper and scanned it once before murmuring, "It's a deed to a house." She said, confused. Spencer looked at Rossi and he nodded. "Spencer, what's this all about?"

"It's a deed to this house. Rossi bought this house for us. He wanted us closer to work." Well, Rossi wanting them closer to work was a little white lie but Gabriella seemed to accept it.

"Thanks, Rossi." She murmured to the older agent.

"It's not much, but like Reid said, at least it's closer to the FBI building and you two don't have to drive there constantly because it's walking distance from here to there." Gabriella laughed softly to herself. That would come in handy after she was cleared to go back to work.

"Okay...Let the woman of honor have a seat, Rossi." Garcia said, laughing.

As soon as Gabriella sat down, Rossi handed her another package, a very large package. "This is for the baby when you and Reid feel she's old enough. Until then, it can grace a shelf or something." At this, both Spencer and Gabriella frowned. Gabriella pulled out an American Girl Doll from the carefully wrapped package. It had red hair and blue eyes – which made Spencer laugh.

"You didn't, Rossi! I thought that it was a...historical doll!" Spencer blurted out.

"I thought about getting her one...but decided if I was going to outfit the doll, it would be more practical to get the Just Like Me Doll or whatever they call it." Rossi explained. "There's more in there, Gabby...This is a joint project between me, Morgan and Hotch. " Gabriella handed the doll to Spencer. She pulled out a doll stand, all the historical and contemporary clothes that had ever existed for the American Girl Collections, and a lot of doll hangers.

"Thank you, Rossi." Gabriella choked out.

"I originally collected the doll clothes for my own daughter. But, as you know, I never had one. You are the closest thing that I have to a daughter, Gabby. I hope you have a girl. If not...you two can put them in storage until you have one." he said matter of fact.

"Thanks, Rossi. I didn't know that you felt that way about me."

"Any time Gabriella. Oh, your housewarming gift is over there...Morgan, could you get it?" Morgan handed her a medium sized box. She unwrapped it and laughed at the gift...it was an espresso machine. "Maybe you and Spencer could cut down on the lattes you two get and have them at home."

"Thanks Rossi. You're amazing." Gabriella murmured.

"Okay...my turn." Hotchner said with a smile. This is from both Jack and I." He brought a huge package over and put it on the coffee table.

Spencer unwrapped the gift and opened the box. "It's a dollhouse?" He asked, amused.

"Fit to the exact scale of the doll, Spencer." Hotchner answered. "I had it created for your daughter." Spencer smiled at their boss. "Jack picked out the style of the house. Thought that the baby might like it when she's older." Gabriella tried not to laugh at the idea.

"Should we just tell them now?" Gabriella asked. "They are practically our family, Spence." Spencer shrugged as his response. Honestly, he didn't care. "We're having twins, a boy and a girl."

"Congratulations!" the other Agents chorused, including Chief Strauss.

"Here." Morgan gave another big package to Gabriella. "Your little girl might want these to go with the dollhouse." Gabriella opened the box and found furniture for each room.

"Thanks, you guys..." They opened the rest of the gifts without any trouble from Gabriella. After they were alone, Reid looked at his wife.

"Gabs... why do you hate parties so much?" He asked.

"It...Alan raped me on my birthdays and the holidays, Spence. It didn't matter even if you were there, he'd just make an excuse to have me help him with something and that's when he would do it." Spencer clenched his fists and just stood there, silent for a while.

"The bastard!" He finally ground out. He sat down next to Gabriella on the couch. "Gabs, I'm sorry..."

"Spencer, today...I've learned that parties involving my close friends and husband aren't so bad, and they'll be even better when the twins arrive." Gabriella tried to distract her husband from wanting to kill Alan, and fortunately for Gabriella, Spencer calmed down almost immediately.

"I hope Morgan had a huge commode or whatever you call it made for the clothes.." Spencer commented. Gabriella laughed as she started to hang the clothes up.

"Don't worry, Spence. Morgan had a special table made for the dollhouse. Kevin and Rossi put it into one of the spare bedrooms for now." Gabriella replied as she tried to get up with some difficulty.

"I love you, Mrs. Reid." He said as he helped her up.

"I would hope that you did love me considering I'm carrying your children, who are kicking the hell out of my bladder." She teased her husband. Spencer's rich brown eyes twinkled with mischief.

"Let me show you how much I love you then." He murmured, making her laugh as he swept her neatly off her feet and carried her into the bedroom.
