"But Jaypaw." Cinderpaw pouted. She was so adorable when she pouted like that, wait! Stop it Jaypaw!
"I'm not coming in Cinderpaw. There's nothing you can do to make me." Jaypaw called to Cinderpaw who was busy doing her leg exercises in the water. Cinderpaw got a mischievous look in her eyes. "Great." Jaypaw muttered. He felt himself being dragged into the water like a kit. "Cinderpaw let go!" he demanded.
"Not until you come swimming with me." she replied. Jaypaw felt the cold water rush over him and he squeaked. Cinderpaw laughed.
"Is Jaypaw afraid of some water?" she playfully teased. That's it!
Jaypaw wiggled out of her grip and dunked her head under water for a good 5 seconds then he let her back up. She sputtered then splashed him. Back and forth they kept dunking and splashing until Cinderpaw finally said, "I think we can stop. I'm tired." Jaypaw felt relieved that he wasn't the one to ruin the fun. Fun… that word lingered in his head. When was the last time he had ever had fun?
"Jaypaw are you coming?" Cinderpaw asked. Jaypaw realized that Cinderpaw was now one the shore and he still remained in the water.
"Coming!" he replied. When he reached the shore and began to groom the water out of his fur, Cinderpaw stopped him and mewed,
"I got it." Jaypaw shivered as her tongue ran over him in short yet long strokes. He wasn't sure if it was from the cold or being close to her. He reached over and began to groom Cinderpaw's fur as well. He couldn't be sure, but he could have sworn that he heard Cinderpaw purring.
When their pelts were finally dry Jaypaw got up so they could start walking back to camp.
"Wait! Jaypaw! I wanna tell you something."
"Okay. What is it?"
"Er, you know you're my best friend right?" Jaypaw was a little taken back. Best friend? He had always thought that everyone thought he was just a crabby little hothead who resented everyone. But he came to realize that he had in fact become quite fond of the hyper she-cat.
"Yes, of course." Jaypaw still didn't know what she was getting at.
"Well. What if we were um, more… than friends?" she meowed nervously.
"You're just so much fun to be around. You make my knees shake and make me smile."
"Same with me. You're just so awesome." Jaypaw confessed. Cinderpaw laughed softly. What? Was this a joke? Was she just playing with his feelings? That little
"I'm laughing cuz I was really dramatic with why I like you and then you just say 'you're awesome'" the two cats silently laughed and then Jaypaw said.
"So where do we go from here?" Cinderpaw sighed,
"I don't know. This is like forbidden and Lionblaze already has a crush on me." they way she said his brother's name like it was a burr in her pelt made Jaypaw purr. "I guess we should just keep this a secret." Jaypaw decided. Cinderpaw nodded.
"We'd better head back, Leafpool will be wondering where we've been." the two apprentices walked back to camp, happy that their emotions were finally revealed.
