83 Chapter 1: Shark Week and Jeopardy

Welcome all who have stumbled across this fanfiction. I am by no means a new author, but I am new to this fandom and thought I'd just start a quick fic involving everyone's favorite genius profiler. All chapters will have a Nietzsche quote somewhere in them. This is not exactly set in any specific season, but if I had to say it would be mid season 5 sometime after 100 but before Exit Wounds. But I decided to have Reid's hair short like season 4.

Warnings: If the idea of mpreg or slash bothers you, please turn away now so I can avoid flames or people who say they didn't know what was coming. If you like both please continue reading. I know that mpreg is impossible (hence the title of the fic), so please don't flame me for it. I just love writing it as those who know me are aware of.

Disclaimer: I do not own Criminal Minds or any of the characters. I also don't own Shark Week or Jeopardy, and I don't own What To Expect When You're Expecting. The only thing I do own is the unborn baby, the plotline and the unsub. That's it. If the plot sounds similar to other mpreg fics out there, it is purely coincidental. No infringement is intended.

Improbability

"Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster."
Friedrich Nietzsche

Derek Morgan blinked, hearing random commotion coming from his living room while he was currently preparing a meal consisting of spaghetti and meatballs, garlic bread and a salad. He chuckled softly as he recognized the voice of his partner shouting out the answers to Jeopardy, along with chiding the contestants when they didn't even answer the question. That was one downside to living with a genius; he once considered not even watching the popular game show but realized that Reid enjoyed it. He turned back to the pasta while listening to the banter in the living room. He knows the contestants can't hear him… must be good categories this time.

Morgan then grinned, hearing Reid get excited over one category in particular. He shook his head, walking into the living room as he left the pasta alone for a few moments so it could finish cooking. "Shark category? Never saw that one before."

"They are doing it in recognition of Shark Week." Reid grinned before turning back to the TV, crossing his arms lightly as the contestants went to every category besides the shark one. But he got all of the other questions before one contestant got to the 400 dollar question.

"This shark is the largest of the shark species, named after a mammal." Alex spoke from the TV.

"Dolphin?" One of the contestants answered.

Reid shook his head, grinning as he answered the question with ease. "What is Rhincodon typus, or the Whale Shark. Averaging 27 to 30 feet in length, in the family Orectolobiformes…"

Morgan laughed, putting his hand over Reid's mouth gently. "This is why you wouldn't be allowed on Jeopardy, Pretty Boy. Yes, you would get the answers all correct but you would take the whole half hour to answer them. Why don't we eat dinner before the pasta gets cold?"

"Let me finish the category first." Reid huffed after moving his head away from Morgan's hand, turning his attention to the TV once more as Alex read another question. "Sphyrna mokarran, Great Hammerhead shark. The largest specimen on record was 20 feet long, in the family Carcharhiniformes…"

Morgan shook his head, walking back into the kitchen to serve up their dinner. He did care a lot about the younger genius, but he also knew that he could go into lecture mode rather quickly once someone asked him a question. He hoped the category would be over soon so Reid could come and eat something substantial. He half chuckled to himself as he heard his lover yell 'Charcharadon carcharias' to the TV, figuring the younger male was shaking his fist at the contestant.

"Can you please come in? The category is over now." Morgan started, calling into the living room before he finally saw the younger male stand up from the couch and head into the kitchen. He smiled warmly as he put a plate in front of the other. "Just remember what they told you the other day about actually eating food."

"Of course I remember." Reid grinned, sitting down next to Morgan so they could eat their dinner together for once. It was a rarity, but he was glad that they got the weekend off, provided no cases happened to appear in the next 24 hours. "Oh, remind me to return JJ's book to her on Monday."

"You went through the entire book that fast?" Morgan asked, tilting his head slightly. "We can keep it for as long as we need it, I haven't even gotten past the first trimester section."

"You know how fast I go through reports. Or did you forget that I can read 20,000 words a minute?" Reid asked, smiling a little as he subconsciously moved his hand over his stomach before he continued to eat the spaghetti in front of him. "We still have to tell the others, however I have a feeling Garcia already knows."

"We'll call her after dinner, and we still have tomorrow off unless something happens." Morgan smiled, finishing off his pasta before picking up his empty plate and walking toward the kitchen. He knew this was something worth mentioning, especially if it involved long flights or a potentially dangerous unsub. He didn't want to risk anything happening, and he knew that the younger felt the same way.

Reid laughed slightly, standing up from the table before he carried his empty plate into the kitchen as well. He couldn't believe that Garcia didn't already know, or she did know but wasn't letting on. "She honestly has no idea? You realize that she'll be over here as fast as humanly possible once you call."

"And she'll get on us for not telling her sooner." Morgan laughed, picturing the look on Garcia's face already. He looked over at the other, a light smile crossing his lips before he went back to putting the now empty dishes into the dishwasher. "Besides, you'll probably tell her how far along you are right down to the second."

"I can tell her up to the day, but not the second or hour." Reid started, putting his plate into the dishwasher before closing it. He grinned slightly, looking up at Morgan before he moved his arms around the older male. "It is near impossible to detect the exact second of conception or implantation."

"Only you would know that." Morgan chuckled softly, running his fingers through Reid's hair before letting dark brown meet up with hazel orbs. He was about to lean in for a quick kiss before he heard the house phone ring, earning a slight eye roll from his genius partner and a soft moan of frustration from himself. "That better be Garcia..."

"You do know that the odds of that are at least 5 to 1." Reid smiled, pulling back from the other while he let Morgan answer the phone. He too hoped it was Garcia, but he was also fully aware that their weekends could easily be disrupted. "However it is 7:45 on a Friday evening, so they could still call us in if the situation warrants it."

Morgan nodded, walking over toward the living room while holding the phone. But a smile crossed his lips as he let out a soft sigh of relief that he didn't even realize he was holding. "Don't scare me like that Garcia; I thought that it was an important case. You can come over, besides Reid has something to tell you."

Reid blinked, moving to sit down on the couch as he changed the channel to the Discovery Channel. As long as it wasn't a case, he wasn't worried about anything except Garcia's reaction to the news that he had been keeping for the last 12 ½ weeks. He knew she would be upset for him not saying anything sooner, but he had kept running statistics for miscarriages through his head and how the risk decreased every week past 13.

"Yes, I'll tell him. See you in a few minutes." Morgan spoke before ending the conversation, hanging up the phone before joined Reid on the couch. He had to chuckle softly as he saw what was on TV, he knew that the young genius had to have seen that program a million times. "Air Jaws: Even Higher. You saw that one before didn't you?"

"I have. This makes the fourth time, but it is highly educational." Reid grinned, leaning against Morgan's shoulder before focusing on the program. He eventually closed his eyes, not really paying much attention to the time.

"So what is on after this?" Morgan asked, rubbing the other's shoulders gently. He thought he heard something inaudible before he noticed Reid look up at him from the corner of his eye. "Another shark program you've seen?"

"Garcia won't want to watch it… we'll have the TV off when she comes over." Reid replied softly, nuzzling against Morgan's chest for a moment. "It's a program on hammerhead sharks, but I can always watch it tomorrow when they do the Shark Week marathon. But what did she want to tell me?"

"She said go to sleep after she leaves. You sounded tired when she heard you in the background." Morgan smiled, watching the program for a few minutes. It didn't really seem that bad, and it didn't show much of the sharks killing their prey. More of how the 1,000 pound fish were able to breach so high out of the water. "That is pretty cool."

"It is… and rather amazing as well." Reid smiled, looking up at the other almost ready to explain how the sharks were able to propel themselves out of the water. But he was interrupted by a knock at the door, which was probably a good thing in Morgan's mind. "I'll tell you later."

"It's open." Morgan called, soon hearing the door open before he turned his head to look over the back of the couch. He was glad to see that it was Garcia, but was surprised to see JJ along with her. "She told you didn't she?"

"I said nothing." JJ protested before walking over to the couch, smiling as she saw What To Expect While You're Expecting lying on the coffee table before seeing Reid half asleep on Morgan's shoulder. "Did we come at a bad time? We can always come back tomorrow unless we get a case."

"It's alright." Reid smiled, sitting up after reluctantly moving up from Morgan's shoulder. He reached for the book before handing it over to JJ. "You can have this back; I was planning on returning it to you on Monday."

JJ chuckled softly, sitting down on the other side of Reid while Morgan got up to greet Garcia. She knew her fellow agent had an eidetic memory, but did he really comprehend everything that was going to happen over the next six months? She made sure that Garcia was out of earshot and sight before she turned to Reid. "Are you sure you want to give that back so soon? I doubt Morgan read the whole thing. I'm sure he'd like to know what is coming up with your next appointment."

"Good point. I have caught him reading it while he thinks I'm not watching him." Reid replied, blinking as he watched JJ move her hand to his abdomen. He tried reading her expression, but was thankful as she smiled warmly. "He admitted that he hadn't made it past the first trimester portion."

"Keep it for now. I have no use for it." JJ spoke, moving her hand as she looked up at Morgan and Garcia. "Now you realize you have to tell her, unless Morgan already did. As thin as you are, it will be harder to hide in the coming weeks."

"Thank you, JJ. I guess you can already detect a slight change." Reid nodded before he stood up from the couch, turning to head over and greet Garcia himself. He knew that the change wasn't entirely visible yet, but he figured in the next three weeks it would be if not sooner.

"A little bit. It's sort of cute." JJ chuckled before walking over to Morgan and Garcia. She stepped back, biting back a laugh as the tech almost squeezed the life out of Reid following a squeal of excitement. "Sorry Spence… I think Morgan told her."

"Alright Baby Girl, let him breathe." Morgan smiled, trying to pull the excited tech away from his lover. He knew it was somewhat of a mistake to tell her, but it was better to do so now instead of when Reid was actually starting to show more than he already was. "Don't want to squish your godson or goddaughter do you?"

Garcia smiled, pulling back from Reid. She noticed a look on his face, knowing full well that he was about to say something about Morgan's statement. "I don't want to do that. But why not make JJ the godmother?"

"You know that squishing the embryo isn't possible." Reid started, looking up at Garcia with a look of reassurance on his face before giving a half glare to Morgan for making their friend worry. "It is only about the size of a jellybean, but is starting to develop leg and arm buds. Plus it is safe in the amniotic sac."

"Wow..." Garcia smiled, carefully hugging Reid again. She was happy when Morgan and Reid finally decided to act upon their feelings, and now they were about to be parents. "So there is a baby genius growing in there. Derek didn't give me specifics, like how far along you are."

"Just don't ask the due date." Morgan laughed, heading over to pick up the book from the table before looking at JJ. "Are you sure you want us to keep this? Knowing Reid he'll be reciting the whole thing by heart. When he hits a certain milestone I won't hear the end of it."

"I'm sure. You need to read up on it." JJ started before she looked over toward Reid and Garcia. He knew that the younger would be reciting everything and probably fretting if things weren't right on schedule. "If either of you need help, I'll be glad to do anything I can. Especially toward the final weeks."

"I heard that!" Reid spoke before turning toward Garcia while Morgan and JJ spoke in the other room. He subconsciously moved his hand over the slight bump that was forming, suddenly remembering how freaked out he was when he felt Henry kick his hand while JJ was very pregnant with him. "Oh, right. Technically I am 12 weeks and 5 days along."

"You have pictures yet? Do share." Garcia smiled, spotting JJ from the corner of her eye. They just got here; there was no way she would let the liaison drag her out just yet. "Oh come on… can we stay a little longer? Boy wonder was about to show off baby pictures."

"Not really discernible as a baby yet in these pictures." Reid replied, smiling as he watched Garcia's expression as she looked over the printouts. He looked over at Morgan, knowing that he still had to tell his mother and sisters the news. Plus it was getting late even in Chicago, considering the one hour time difference. "My next appointment is Monday, but if we get a case I'll have to put it off depending on if we'll end up out of state like with the Nashville case."

"You are not putting it off." JJ spoke sternly, putting a hand on Reid's shoulder as Garcia took one of the printouts for herself. She knew that missing one day wasn't bad, but if he put it off a week or longer it would not be a great thing. "You of all people should know that isn't a good idea. If anything you can ask if the appointment can be set up earlier in the day."

"I'll do that after Derek calls his mother. He hasn't told her yet." Reid replied honestly, looking up at the blond. He had even contemplated writing his own mother, however that subject would be best approached carefully. He already told her about his relationship with Morgan, but now the pregnancy was a whole new matter. "You can have a printout also if you wish, there are plenty. Derek insisted that we have a few copies for the team."

JJ nodded, smiling as she hugged Reid gently before taking a printout. She carefully moved her hand to the faint baby bump before letting blue meet up with hazel for a few seconds. This was definitely something special, and she would hate to have anything happen. "You be good in there baby genius. Don't cause too much trouble alright? We'll be seeing you very soon."

"Not too soon." Reid smiled, refraining from mentioning that the growing embryo wouldn't be able to hear until at least 20 weeks gestation at the earliest. But it was nice to think that he or she could hear JJ's soothing voice. "Thank you both for coming by, and if nothing comes up I will see you on Monday for sure. Possibly tomorrow if I feel up to it."

JJ nodded as she headed out with Garcia, both of them holding the printouts they had received. Garcia was especially excited, wanting to see the unborn baby already. But both blondes knew that it would be a long six months if everything went well. However that didn't mean they both couldn't think about it.

Morgan smiled as the two left, soon watching Reid walk toward their shared bedroom. Thankfully the younger didn't have his cane or crutches any longer, but he still detected a faint limp at times if he looked close enough. "Going to bed? I'll join you in a bit, I still have to call my mother and tell her the news."

"I know, it's barely 9 but I am a bit tired." Reid replied honestly, turning his head for a moment as he looked over at Morgan. "Apparently baby genius demands sleep, so I better listen. Tell your mother I said hello, but I'm sure if she has her way she'll want us to go to Chicago."

"Sleep well, Pretty Boy." Morgan spoke, watching Reid enter the bedroom before he closed the door behind him. He soon turned to his cellphone, taking a deep breath before he looked at his contacts list. He knew it was late, but it was better to tell her now. "Mom, it's Derek. I'm fine but I have some news…"

Apologies if Reid watching Jeopardy and Shark Week bugs any readers out there. We all know if he had free time he'd watch it. As for how I'm planning the rest of the fic, you'll see as the chapters go on. For the birth, we'll see about that as well. But I do know it will be not medicated as Reid wouldn't want to risk getting addicted to something again like after the dilaudid incident with Hankel (or is it Henkel? Please correct any spelling errors, thanks.)

The next chapter will probably come up next Tuesday as I have a 14 hour shift ahead of me today/ tomorrow depending what time zone you are in (I'll just say Thursday). And the cliffhanger will be resolved then.
