11 Chapter 1

Mistoffelees Fan-Kit's Note: A collaboration with EriksNewLove (ENL) because we get a lot of ideas together, and she's awesome. I write the odd-numbered chapters (1,3,5,7...so on.) She writes the even-numbered chapters (2,4,6,8...so on.) I'm Katriana, she's MaKenzie (not our real names). This is set as humans in an orphanage.

Chapter One: The weirdest orphanage ever.

(Katriana's POV)

I sat up and looked around my dorm, smiling. This building may be an orphanage, but it was still a great place to grow up. It wasn't anything like Annie, no evil headmistress who made you do chores day in and day out. In fact, we had two wonderful and caring headmistresses who treated us like their own kids. I climbed out of bed and grabbed a shirt and jeans, putting them on hastily. Then I walked out of my dorm and across the hall to my best friend's room.

"MaKenzie? Are you up yet?" I called, walking into her dorm without waiting for an answer.

"Yep!" She almost ran into me when she opened the door.

"What are we doing today?"

"Er...did you brush your hair?" MaKenzie stared at the halo of frizz surrounding my head.

"No...I will now!" I ran back into my dorm and hastily yanked a brush through it, flinching when the brush hit snarls. I bounced on my feet, trying to get the brushing done as quickly as I could, when an explosion shook the orphanage. I poked my head cautiously out of the door.

"Quaxo! Mistoffelees! Get yourself out here!" Jennyanydots called, stepping into the dorm hall. A small boy ran into the hallway, his jet-back hair standing on end and smoking holes in his pajamas. He blinked, and I noticed his eyes were sky-blue. He was Mistoffelees today. I have to explain- we aren't a normal orphanage. Mistoffelees and Quaxo have multiple personality disorder...to the extreme, and they can both do magic – lights, smoke, explosions, you name it. None of us here are really normal. MaKenzie and I can change out appearances at will, from hair color to height. And then there's everybody else.

"Er, Miss Jenny, I can explain. I had a nightmare, and kinda...blew off some smoke..." Mistoffelees said nervously, wringing his hands together.

"Was it the usual one?" Jennyanydots said kindly, kneeling down to his height and wrapping her arms around him. That's the great thing about her, she loves us all so much and she's so understanding.

"Yeah." He sniffled as most of the orphans came out to make one big group bear-hug. We're like a family here, you cry, we all cry.

"It's okay." She said, giving him one more squeeze before she shooed the rest of us off to the kitchen.

~~~In the kitchen~~~
I sat down next to MaKenzie, automatically ducking a flying biscuit.
"Coricopat, don't throw your food, eat it instead" Jellylorum chided him, catching the biscuit and putting it back on his plate. He nodded at his twin, Tantomile, answering an unspoken question. They can read minds and converse telepathically with each other, and anyone who can handle the strain of having your brain invaded.
"Yum. Eggs." I said, looking at my plate.
"We have eggs every Sunday." MaKenzie pointed out, laughing.
"So, they're still yummy." I said, ducking Coricopat's biscuit for the second time.
"And you point that out every Sunday." Victoria laughed, joining in on the conversation. The thing that makes her different is that she's like a rubber band. She can stretch and bend every which way easily.
"FOOD FIGHT!" Mistoffelees – er, Quaxo, his eyes were green – yelled from across the table as he threw eggs at Coricopat, who responded by chucking Tantomile's biscuit at him. Chaos began, or it would have, if Jennyanydots and Jellylorum hadn't hauled the boys off into a corner. Coricopat winked at me as he passed. I practically melted in my chair. Gosh, he was cute. C-U-T-E, cute!
"Somebody likes you." MaKenzie whispered in a singsong voice.
"I do not!" I hissed, punching her arm playfully.
"She said 'somebody likes you' not,'you like somebody'." Victoria giggled, "Defensive much, Katriana?"
"Uh...Don't even get me started on you dating two guys at once, Rory – or is it only Mistoffelees and Quaxo who can call you that?" I nervously changed the subject.
"It's not technically dating two guys at once when they have the same body." She muttered, flicking me.
"Multiple personality disorder." I replied, smirking.
"Well, you wouldn't want one of them to be alone forever, or for one of us girls to have to share him, right?" MaKenzie said.
"Yeah, yeah, I know. Magicians have multiple personality disorder ninety-nine percent of the time." I sighed, placing my head in my hand.
"Yep!" Victoria laughed and skipped off, doing a failure of a cartwheel to cheer me up. She tumbled sideways, then did a half-somersault-thingy, resulting in her lying sprawled on the floor, a goofy grin on her face.
"Smart move. Next you'll be jumping into a pool filled with rocks." I laughed as MaKenzie and I pulled Victoria up.
"You know me." She chuckled, smiling.
"Like the back of my hand." I returned the smile. Days like this, I loved being an orphan.
