The Day of the Trial
Sonny
Chad looked at her with dead, lifeless eyes. She knew he had accepted his fate and was mentally shutting down so as to prepare for it. Life in jail. She would never see him again, unless he was released, and Sonny doubted it. But she couldn't let him leave without tell him.
"Chad," She said, pushing her way through the crowds. She knew the camera's had swivelled to face her but she didn't care. Let them see the tears streaming down her face. Let them know.
"Chad..." Sonny's voice broke with emotion. "I love you. There will never be anyone else. No matter what you did, I love you with my whole heart. You will be in my thoughts every single day."
The camera's swung to face Chad to see his reaction. He didn't say anything for a second. Then a smile flickered onto his lips and he looked just like the old Chad again. He took a step towards Sonny and, miraculously, the media sea parted for him.
"Do you, Sonny?" He asked, coming closer still. "Do you really?"
With his hands chained and the media camera's flashing around them, he leant forward and kissed her. The flashes became stars and the shouts from the media were drowned out by the sounds of their own beating hearts. The kiss only lasted for a few seconds, but they would hold onto it for a lifetime.
As Chad was pulled away, Sonny kept her eyes on him. Even as he was pushed down the aisle and through the doors, Sonny didn't turn away. She kept her eyes fixed on him until the last possible second.
He turned back and flashed her a winning smile before the doors shut behind him, and he was gone from her life forever.
