13 Chapter 1

Waterloo Road.

This is my first and probably only Waterloo Road fic, so… yeah, any kind of Reviews wanted! But if you don't like it, Constructive Criticism and not plain old flames yeah? They get so tedious don't you agree?

I don't any Waterloo Road related content; if I did then Chris would NOT have left!

Around The Corner

Chapter 1

Alexa Sharkey squeezed her eyes open and sighed, she was staring right into the glowing green numbers on her alarm clock, the annoying persistent beeping invading her peaceful sleep. It had taken her a while to get to sleep; she'd been excited and nervous for the day. She was starting a new job today; it was her first real new job. She'd only worked at the supermarket before whilst she'd been taking her teacher training courses. But now she was starting as a real teacher at a real school, and she was terrified. She knew the school, her little brother went there. Waterloo Road, Finn Sharkey went there, he'd told her a lot about the teachers and she'd met some of his friends who were also students, but that didn't stop nerves eating her insides.

With another reluctant sigh she sat up and slammed the button on her alarm clock to make it stop beeping. She stretched her arms high above her head, stretching the sleep from her joints. She dropped her arms and looked around her room, she liked this flat, modern yet homey. She swung her legs over the bed and she stood slowly, rolling her shoulders back as she did. She went to the airing cupboard and grabbed two towels, venturing into her en-suite bathroom she made a promise to herself. She didn't want to think about how Finn would react to seeing his big sister teaching at his school. She knew he wasn't taking drama (which is what she taught) but she was still nervous.

She climbed into the shower and gasped at the cold water that splashed down onto her naked body. She turned the hot water up and cursed loudly as it scolded her, never a good start to a day. She found the right temperature and showered quickly, her mind wandering over the day ahead, different scenarios played through her head, the first one being Finn shouting at her and demanding that she quit at once. Another one being Finn accepting her as a teacher and ignoring her. And the last one, Finn was happy she was a teacher and looked forward to her teaching his friends.

She smiled to herself as she dressed and blow-dried her shoulder-length dark blonde hair. She applied a little make-up before deciding against it and scrubbing it away. Then she re-looked at her outfit and decided it wasn't right for the first day, jeans and a hoodie. Instead she opted for a white blouse, a black blazer and skirt and black tights with black heels. She hated wearing heels but she had to make a good impression.

She put her hair up into a tight bun and glanced at the time. She swore loudly and snatched up her bag before running out the door, it was never good to be late on your first day. She smiled to herself as she glanced at herself in her wing mirror. She was impressed herself at how unnaturally smart she looked.

When she pulled up in the school nerves came back, kids were swarming into school and she noticed Finn and his friends among them, he didn't notice her. She took a deep breath and got out of the car, pulling her bag over her shoulder. She began to make her way towards the main front doors, a man she recognized was stood there, and he'd been at her interview.

'Hello…' he greeted her with a warm smile, he stuck out his hand and she shook it warmly.

'Hello,' she was cursing herself in her head, she'd forgotten his name. 'Sorry, I've forgotten your name! I'm rubbish with names…' she said with a mix of truth and apology in her voice.

He laughed, 'It's ok! I think you have to be rubbish with names to be a teacher… I'm Chris, but I remember you, Alexa!'

'Oh, well now I feel worse, you remember my name!' she said, but remained smiling.

'Don't worry! Come on, I'll show you your classroom, you'll be giving most of your lessons in the hall and on the stage but as you know you have a form to take care of! So you have a classroom! It'll also kind of work as your office and you have complete control of it, so you can give lessons in there for theory.'

'Sounds great!' she grinned. She was lead to a bare looking classroom on the end of the English corridor. She nodded in approval, 'Thank you!'

'No problem, just remember, first period is non-existent today, we have an assembly in the hall so bring your form there as we have a new head as you know.'

'Oh yeah! I remember, Karen Fisher?'

'That's it!'

'Oh ok! Should be good! I'll see you there?'

'Yep.'

He left and she was left to stare around at her classroom. She dumped her bag by the desk and collapsed into the chair behind it. Her feet were killing already, she hated heels.

The bell rang shrilly and soon kids began lining up outside her classroom, she waited until she thought they were all there before she stood up.

Well here goes nothing… she thought to herself as she made her way towards the door, ready to begin.
