A/N: Surprise sequel! I'd make it a separate story fromt the original, but that would mean having to come up with a new title and description.
"Excuse me. My name is Martin Stevenson. I'm sorry if I'm interrupting anything, but I'd like to join the literary club."
...How the hell did he know that this is where the literary club was located? Was it the big sign outside saying 'SOS Brigade' that gave it away? Or was it the fact that the only one who does any reading is tucked away in the corner where she can only be seen if you're specifically looking for her?
Haruhi closed down whatever it was she was looking at the computer and stood up with the excitement of a child on Christmas morning.
"You're the new exchange student, right? The one from England?"
Why and how is she always so quick to find out about these things?
"Anyway, I guess you'll have to ask Yuki if you can join. She should be totally okay with it, since you're the first person to join since, I dunno, this brigade started?"
So you're saying it's her decision, but then deciding for her?
"It's fine." Nagato said. I guess that response from her was pretty much inevitable, but it was still rude for Haruhi to assume so, right?
Martin nodded gratefully and took a seat, placing his backpack to one side and taking a book out of it.
...You know, I really thought that the arrival of a new member would be more eventful than that.
Then again, there's still the possibility that he's a vampire or a slider or something like that.
It wasn't until much later in the evening that I realized that it would be much more sensible to ask Nagato about this guy than it would be to wait for a confession from someone who could be totally normal.
So I decided to pay her a visit. Knock knock.
"Come in."
And so I came in. As you'd expect, Nagato was waiting for me in the living room.
But did you expect Martin to be in there with her?
"This... Isn't what it looks like..." He stammered.
Really? Because to me it looks like you're both fully clothed, sitting a few feet away from each other. What's really happening, then?
Nagato paused only briefly as she prepared her explanation. "Martin has no home in this universe."
This universe?
"He found himself in our universe just last night. I allowed him to stay here temporarily, because..."
It may have been my imagination, but they both looked very uncomfortable during this pause.
"...She owed me a favor." Martin finished.
"I don't understand." I said. "How can she owe you anything if you've only just arrived here?"
Nagato chose to answer in the form of a question. "Do you recall when I went missing two months ago?"
How could I forget? She was gone for a couple of days, and when she came back she was behaving very differently. Even now, she doesn't seem to be fully back to normal.
"During that time, I found myself in Martin Stevenson's universe." She continued. "He allowed me to stay at his house, and for that I am repaying him."
"So... He's a slider, but not by choice?"
"That's right..." He stared towards the floor, making me feel somewhat guilty for asking.
"Well then..." I nervously stepped back towards the exit. "I guess those are all the answers I was looking for. I... guess I'll see you tomorrow."
"Goodbye." He didn't even look up as he spoke.
That night, I didn't sleep all that well. Just putting that up there for anyone who's interested in little things like that. Don't think this is me accepting you people or anything; I still wouldn't anyone within 50 feet of me if they were fascinated by how I slept each night.
A/N: I'd like to thank Yuki for teaching me Japanese and getting me into North High in less time than should be possible.
