2 Chapter 1

CSI

I do not own CSI or any CSI related content; I only own Rachael, Katie, Jay and Ellie.

This is special Christmas present for TheDarkSideAlwaysHasCookies, it's also kind of for EllieBrown, but I'm not sure if she'll want it or if she's even on Fan Fiction anymore…

Christmas and the Smell of Burning.

Chapter 1

'Are you sure that having the whole team over tomorrow isn't going to be too stressful for you?' Greg Sanders said to his wife Katie.

'No! Come on, you know their practically like family! And they want to come, I want them to come! And for once maybe Ellie and Jay will be a little better behaved if there's other people here too!' she replied, continuing with the washing up, even though there was a smile on her face.

'You know they won't.' Greg grinned. He wrapped his arms around her waist and rested his chin on her shoulder, 'Only if you're one-hundred percent happy with it.'

'Greg,' she looked at his reflection in the window, 'I must have told you a hundred times. Of course I'm happy with it! And I'm sure Alannah will be too…'

Greg re-tracked his arms in shock, 'Alannah?' he said, surprised.

'Of course!' Katie said turning round, she saw his face and she raised an eyebrow, 'Now she is family! And I'm the only family she has left who isn't in jail! She asked if she could come and I said yes. What's the harm in one more person?'

'No, nothing!' Greg said quickly, 'You just, know, what she teaches the kids…'

'I know, I can't believe Rachael called you that word, I keep meaning to have words with Alannah about that, but you've taught them some interesting stuff as well haven't you?' she said, leaning against the sink and drying her hands.

'Well that's different, I'm their dad I'm allowed!' he said indignantly.

'No you're not!' Katie began, they could have gone into a full-blown argument about it, although the argument wouldn't have been serious and they would have laughed about it later, but then their eldest daughter came in, Rachael Sanders was twelve years old and already acting like a teenager. She had long, blonde hair with a side fringe and was wearing jeans with a casual t-shirt.

She loved her parents, she wanted to be like them when she was older, and she wanted to be a cop. But she also disliked them sometimes, when they treated her like a baby. But they couldn't help that, to them, she was still their baby.

'Rachael!' Katie exclaimed as she came in, 'Can I ask a huge, massive, big girl favour of you?'

'Depends,' Rachael said suspiciously.

'Can you go to bed early so Ellie and Jay will too?' Greg asked.

'You really think you're gonna get two six year olds to go to bed early on Christmas Eve?' Rachael laughed before she realised her parents were being serious. 'This is so unfair! Why can't we just tell them Santa doesn't exist! It would be so much easier!'

'Wait, how did you find out Santa wasn't real?' Katie asked.

'Dad told me.' She said simply before leaving. Katie raised an eyebrow at Greg.

'I'm sorry, it just kinda slipped out. I guess we're lucky Ellie and Jay weren't around…'

Suddenly Katie burst into tears, 'Woah!' Greg said, putting his arms around her whilst she sobbed into his shoulder, 'What's up?'

'They grow up so fast!' she squeaked between sobs.

'I know,' he said kissing the top of her head and looking out into the living room where Rachael had just collapsed onto the sofa and begun texting whereas Ellie and Jay were sitting on the floor playing with their toys. 'I know…'
