"I can see why McGarrett likes you. You're badass, man" Lori said after an arrest. Kono held her wrist with her other hand.
"Nah, he just needs good backup." police cruisers surrounded them and Chin was 'booking' one of the shooters.
"I can't snipe like you can. Or punch." Lori chuckled. She and Kono had become good friends besides the first introduction of Lori arresting her.
"She's just been hanging with him too long." Danny butt in, taking off his bulletproof vest.
"Chin says I'm a lot like him." Lori stated.
"Hmm. Yeah. You both make constipated faces when people don't do as you say." Danny said and Kono chuckled.
"Yeah. He's interesting." Lori said with a smile that made Kono uncomfortable.
"I think you mean crazy." Danny pointed out.
"Do you think we'd be good together?" Lori asked bluntly.
Kono and Danny stared at her wide eyed.
"I asked Chin but it became awkward."
"As if this isn't awkward…" Kono mumbled.
"Uh, you know, Lori, opposites attract. I think an office romance is so not good for five-0. Plus, as his best friend, I have to warn you he really is crazy." Danny said quickly.
"I tried to figure him out but it's hard. Other than the—" Lori was cut off
"Daddy issues. Yeah, see Boss hates when you try to deduce things about him." Kono chuckled.
"Ok I just wanted your opinions before I made a move." Lori said. Steve was walking over. "how's my hair?" she asks Kono.
"Did she seriously just ask that?" Danny asked Kono. Kono rolled her eyes.
"This could either crash and burn or go really well. I kind of wanna watch." Danny smiled at Kono's shocked face.
"Me too. I always thought of her as analytical and quiet. Maybe even lesbian. But making a move? On Steve no less. That's so not Lori. Unless it was all a façade." she said, shaking out her wrist.
"Hey Kono, why don't you get that checked out. You got knocked pretty hard." Steve walked right past Lori. He gave the three a smile and walked over to an officer who got shot.
Lori started mumbling to herself.
"Why didn't you initiate conversation with Steve?" Danny asked.
"He always talks to me. He always responds to my flirting. But he whent straight to Kono. What did I do wrong?" Lori asked them. Danny and Kono looked at each other.
"Maybe he's not interested." Kono said.
"Interested in you, more like." Lori said solemnly.
"whoa brah, I got nothing to do with this. Be forward. Boss likes girls who are forward." Kono offered.
"how do you know? Were you forward with him?" Lori asked and Danny snorted. Kono slapped his chest.
"Just trust me" she gave Lori a smile and opened her eyes wide at Danny. They left Lori to over analyze little things.
"Seriously how do you know these things about Steve?" Danny asked.
"I've dated his type. A lot. I know what they like." she said smoothly.
"Uh huh. So are you saying Steve is your type?" he cocked an eyebrow.
"you're worse than Lori," she chuckled but stopped when she saw he was being serious.
"wha- I mean usually. But he's my mentor. It did bother me when Lori was asking those questions." Kono admitted.
Danny nodded his head and turned to walk away.
"hey!" she grabbed his arm. "This stays in confidence? OK? Between you and me?" she asked.
"Sure. I love a good drama. The McGarrett love triangle!" Danny laughed and Kono hushed him.
"I will kick your sorry ass back to Jersey if you say anything to Lori." she threatened.
"oh ok. I'll go tell Steve." Danny smiled. Kono made a face that read 'you wouldn't' and Danny patted her shoulder.
"nah I'm teasing. Besides. It's 2:50, I gotta go get Grace. Have fun" Danny winked.
"what?" Kono asked but she understood why when she heard work boots barely hitting the asphalt walking towards her.
"I thought I told you to get that wrist checked." McGarrett said concerned.
"It's just a twist. I won't need a cast." she assured him.
"so why are you mad at Danny?" he chuckled, crossing his arms over his muscular chest.
"trust me, you're better off not knowing."
"Well, if you ever want to talk or need help with revenge for whatever reason.." he emphasized the last two words. "You know where to find me. Alright, Kono get that checked." he patted her arm and headed for Chin.
Kono smiled as he left but turned to see Lori staring at them a grimace on her face.

"So how's Steve? " Lori said when they got back to headquarters.
"good?" Kono said confused, settling herself at her desk.
"mhmm." Lori sucked her cheek in a tart response.
"look, Lori, he approached me. Besides, like Danny said, the last thing five-0 needs is a relationship. Steve's last girl was a Seal, she didn't work with us."
"Whatever you say." Lori said and went to her office. Danny cleared his throat from the doorway.
"What's her problem?" he asked and sat on the edge of Kono's desk.
"Danny. You're reading into things too much."
"Ok. I was just gonna say I approve. More of you than Lori. Just telling you."
"As if boss sees me that way." Kono snorted.
"As his best friend I'm inclined to tell you that I approve." Danny winked, leaving Kono a little shaken.
"Hey" Danny said to Steve as he left Kono's office.
"two arguments in one day? I'm starting to think you two are having relationship issues." Steve joked and leaned in the doorway to her office.
"Not with each other." she smiled.
Steve gave her a quizzical look and she laughed.
"well Lori invited me to drinks and I thought I'd invite you." Steve said.
"I would love to but I don't think Lori would like that."
"ok. Call me if you change your mind. We're meeting at nine at some club but I can swing by if you want in." he drummed his fingers on the wood post.
"Thanks boss. I'll think about it." Kono smiled and watched him walk away.
Danny peeked in and wagged his eyebrows.
"Shut up." Kono chuckled.
Danny continued to smile.
"Unless you wanna become my new punching bag you'll stop with the innuendos. There's nothing going on. Just drinks. With Lori." Kono sighed.
"I didn't say anything." Danny chuckled.
"And by the way, if he wants you there, it means something. I mean, I wouldn't want to be alone with Lori either but he asked you not me."
"Thanks Danno." So she had less than five hours to decide if she wanted to go with Steve. That was not gonna be enough time. She dialed a number on her cell and she waited as it rang.

"Hey Mary. It's Kono. I need your help."
