34 Chapter 6

Sorry for the long wait! I haven't been very inspired for this story but I am now! There are some errors in the last chap like missing end quotations marks and the fact that Kono all of the sudden has her cell when Danny is supposed to have it and yeah… Human error! Enjoy!

"What the hell?"

"What does Fryer have to do with this?"

"Delano is his ex-partner. Maybe something in those files isn't so Fryer friendly."

"Could be. He's HPD, he has access to the files. Why would he need us to get them? This makes no sense." Kono sighed, staring at the screen.

"I'm gonna look through the files. Make sure I know what Fryer doesn't want us to know before."

"Before what?"

"I confront him and kick his ass. I told him, he better not mess with my team."

"He's not that stupid, though. He knows we can analyze the audio of the calls."

"He probably assumed we'd be in critical condition and Danny would be too grief-stricken that he'd just do as he was asked."

"Hey, if I were stricken with grief, my cop instinct would be in overload." Danny scoffed.

"Fryer doesn't know that, does he?" Kono pointed out.

"I'm gonna get that—" Steve started but Danny stopped him with his hand.

"You're supposed to be in critical condition. How many times do I have to remind you? I'll go confront him, once we find whatever it is he wants, and that's not even a good idea because then he'll know we know. Your little act of stupidity could blow our chance to understand and get this guy." Danny said, pointing his finger at Steve.

"yeah, well if we don't figure out what's going on, Kono's life is still in danger!" Steve argued back. Kono took a step back, letting the boys work it out while she slipped out the door.

"It's not that simple!" Danny yelled.

They both groaned, frustrated. "Why don't we just figure out what he did, then confront him." Danny suggested.

"Together." Steve made sure and Danny nodded.

"Kono, you want in?" Danny asked, turning to where Kono was just a few moments earlier. "Kono!" Danny went into cop mode, searching for her but Steve knew what she was gonna do.

"Don't bother." Steve muttered. "Danny, she took the files." He peered out the window and then felt his pockets. "She took my car!"

"Are you serious? I was thinking all I had to worry about was you, but now Kono? Good God man, is there something in your saliva that makes people do reckless things? Seriously, man!" Danny exclaimed.

"Hey, we need to focus on getting to Fryer before Kono does. She's probably figured him out already. We gotta go." Steve said, already heading for the door.

Fryer was heading for his car in the HPD lot. Kono was jogging up behind him as silently as she could. For a police officer, he was kind of hard of hearing. Kono pulled out her gun.

"Fryer. Stop." He froze when he heard her voice.

"Kono. Aren't you supposed to be in critical condition?" Fryer was eyeing the gun she had pointing at his head.

"You thought you'd have your money by now and all the evidence removed, huh? You really thought we'd do as you said?" Kono cried, hands shaking. "I know what you did. You fake son of a bitch, I know about everything."

"I don't know what you're talking about." Fryer badly lied.

"Really? Kono played the stripped recording of the call. It was clearly Fryer's voice.

"What do you want, Kono? I see you have the files." Fryer motioned to the manila folders she stuffed in the back of her pants. "Forget the money. Just let me get off the island, then you can chase me." Fryer pled.

"Why would I do that? You came after me and manipulated me. And all that time Wo Fat went under the surface and got connected, it was you connecting him. You were in on whatever John McGarrett was, you and Delano. When Delano got busted for shaking drug money, you broke it off with Wo Fat, yet you still supply him with intel. You're the reason all of our busts never work out. You're the reason Wo Fat is always one step ahead." She spat, livid.

"Kono, Kono, put the gun down. We can talk." Fryer closed his eyes, waiting for her to shoot.

"I'm not taking you out like this." She scoffed and dropped the gun. Fryer was relieved for a millisecond, and then he saw her fist coming his way.

Kono hadn't landed more than two punches and Fryer was on the ground. She was grabbing his shirt collar to lift him up and shove him against his car but a pair of strong arms scooped her off of Fryer.

"What the hell? Steve, dammit! I had him." Kono exclaimed, trying to wriggle free of his arms. Before Fryer could recover, Danny was on top of him, cuffing him.

"You want to fill us in?" Steve asked when Kono calmed down and stopped squirming.

"He, Delano and Wo Fat had a past. That decade Fat was getting connected? Guess who his connection was? He's been tipping Wo Fat off the moment you arrived on this island." Kono explained.

"And your evidence?" Danny called, hoisting Fryer to his feet.

"Delano and Fryer suddenly got really rich about the same time they landed in Wo Fat's pocket. Delano was arrested for laundering drug money, only what we didn't know was whose money it was." Steve nodded, arms crossed over his chest. Danny was reading Fryer his Miranda rights.

"I know my goddamn rights! I've said them more than you!" Fryer croaked when Danny slammed him on the hood of his car.

"When I was IA, I was in his office once. There was a picture of him and few police officers hanging out in front of a warehouse. I didn't realize until later that one was Delano and the other three were all ex-cops. The only reason Fryer still has his badge is because the others 'sacrificed' theirs so Fryer could remain and get Intel."

"That's good enough for me. I would say 'book him, Danno' but you already did." Steve chuckled and turned to Kono. "Why'd you run off?"

"I can handle myself. And you guys wouldn't have been able to make a case." Kono said.

"Don't do it again, please." Steve implored. The 'please' kind of threw her off.

"Does this mean I can go home now?" Kono inquired.

"What, you couldn't stand one night at my place?" Steve chuckled and Danny threw a disapproving look.

"I don't want to hear all that nastiness, take it to the car. Have some class, man." Danny had put Fryer in the back seat and was revving his engines. "See you back at HQ."

Kono smiled. "Oh, yeah." She fumbled in her pocket and tossed Steve's keys at him.

"Don't take my car again." Steve asked, not as nice this time.

"You do it to Danny all the time." She rolled her eyes teasingly.

"Actually, you can use it whenever you want. As long as I'm in the car." Steve amended.

"Uh huh, and does the car have to running?" Kono made an advance. It took Steve a moment to understand what she was implying.

"The back is probably sturdier than the couch." He said. Their lips crashed into each other, hands started exploring. They made their way around the car in heat. Steve had on hand on her waist and the other fumbling to get the door open. The door was open and Steve collapsed on the seat, taking Kono on top of him. She hit her head slightly getting in the car.

"You ok? I'm sorry, I—" Steve started.

"Talk about buzz kill." Kono mumbled, rubbing her head. "Besides, did you want the first time in the police's parking lot, for Christ's sake?" She giggled.

"Well, you know, I can always drive the car to a gas station or something." Steve smiled. "It doesn't matter where we are as long as I'm with you."

The end! Didcha like it? Hate it? Review! :D
