Disclaimer: I own nothing
Yay! My first Sherlock fic. Shortest one shot I have ever written!
Dr. Watson let the hurried claps from Molly's shallow heels fade from their hearing before turning to the only other alive figure in the morgue.
"Why do you do that?" John asked inquisitively, with his head cocked to the side and his hands in his pockets. He was staring contemplatively at Sherlock as if trying to work out a puzzle.
The detective had nothing better to do besides turn to his friend/colleague since Donovan was off complaining to Lestrade no doubt and Molly was obtaining paperwork regarding the body lying on the autopsy table in front of Sherlock. "I do a lot of things John, all them for a reason. You will have to be more specific."
Sherlock Holmes was rubbing off on John it seemed for a shrewd glint entered the doctor's hazel eyes. "Yes, how could I forget? But now that I think of it, you don't really deduce-" He waved his fingers- "Donovan all the time, only when she's being...unhelpful. But you do it to Molly every time you see her."
A dark eyebrow rose on Sherlock's ivory face. "You wish to know why I am honest with Molly and not Donovan," Sherlock stated plainly.
John was not completely successful at containing a splutter. "Honest is one way to put it." He shook his head at Sherlock. "But yeah, why aren't you honest with Donovan?"
The detective smiled pityingly at John. "She doesn't interest me. Why else do I do things, John?"
"Oh so Molly does?" John pressed, barely concealing a smile. "That's your reason for terrorising her? She interests you?"
"Terrorising? I am merely noticing the facts."
John wanted to smirk at the avoided question but he only waited with his eyebrows slightly raised as Sherlock turned his gaze to the cadaver on the cold table. He could tell that the body was not Sherlock's focus of attention though because the detective's silver eyed gaze remained fixed on a single point- he would have said unseeingly but this was Sherlock Holmes after all.
"You're noticing her," John informed Sherlock.
The detective straightened and eyed John crossly. "Of course I am. I wouldn't be able to make my deductions if I did not. Honestly John, you are more obtuse than usual today." He then spun on his heel and made for the exit.
A sigh chased after Sherlock. "Why do I even bother?" John asked himself for the countless time.
If anyone has read this- thank you! If you would please review, it would make my day...night...whatever! I'd really like to know if I got Sherlock's and John's characterization right. I'm pretty sure that Sherlock is the hardest character to write like ever.
