Things had been going at a fairly normal pace for the past two weeks, which was until Astral received a strange letter in the mail. She walked back to her room while examining the envelope. It was addressed to her but there was no return address, just a strange symbol. The symbol looked like some kind of demon leaping through a ring of fire. That simple image gave her a strange sense of foreboding but she shrugged it off in favor of curiosity.
Flipping the envelope over, she tore open the seal and pulled out the pages inside. It was a long hand written letter all in classical Japanese. Sighing she shook her dark head, deep red hair falling out from behind her ears. She had no idea how to read classical Japanese. Modern Japanese was easy, she was fluent in that, but classical she had never even looked at before.
With another sigh Astral turned back to the letter. Suddenly, right before her eyes, the writing changed. It shifted from hand written classical Japanese to fully typed modern Japanese. Silver eyes widened as the characters settled back on the page. Quickly she flipped to the last page of the letter to find the sender's name.
Her eyes got even wider as she read the name, titles and all. It was from Lady Taisho. For a moment Astral wondered who Lady Taisho was. Then she remembered seeing a certain episode of InuYasha. Lady Taisho was a character from the show. That should be impossible; InuYasha was a fictitious TV show. There was no way that this letter could really be from Sesshomaru's mother. Setting the letter down Astral walked back down to the front door to investigate.
What she saw surprised her; instead of some laughing at the prank a tall man with long silver hair and wearing a traditional Japanese kimono and fancy armor stood there. Astral stared for a moment unable to believe what was going on. He looked familiar to her for some reason.
She walked outside in an attempt to see who it was. Then the man turned and she realized that he looked just like Sesshomaru. He must have been a really good cosplayer to have gotten every last detail of the dog demon's appearance right. When he spoke Astral started second guessing herself on that.
"What are you staring at, human?" he questioned in Japanese, clearly having noticed my stare a while ago.
"N-nothing. I-wha-who…" was all she got out because she was surprised that his voice sounded exactly like Sesshomaru's. This guy must have practiced a lot got get his personality and voice down pat.
"This is one of the reasons I hate humans. They don't know how to react to someone with power." He sighed stepping toward her.
"What do you mean by that? Aren't you a cosplayer?" Astral asked, confused.
"Cosplayer? What is that?" Golden eyes narrowed at her tone and she backpedaled.
"Umm… a cosplayer is someone who dresses up as a character for the fun of it." She said, her speech fumbling slightly because her brain wasn't fully functioning right then.
"Humph. I am no such thing." He huffed turning away.
Now Astral's mind was running at a million miles an hour, going over the day's events. First, when she was at school, she had dozed off in math class and had a strange dream. It had been about someone who looked a lot like her, Sesshomaru, Inuyasha, Kagome and their friends. Then when she had gotten home she had gotten strange letter that had to be a prank. Now someone who looked, sounded and acted just like Sesshomaru was standing in the middle of her front yard.
"Could it really be the real Sesshomaru? And could the letter really be from Lady Taisho?" she asked herself in English.
Glancing up she saw the Sesshomaru-lookalike staring at her. He seemed to understand what she had said just by hearing his name. The silver haired man looked away with a huff when their eyes met. Astral sighed and lifted the letter again, this time looking at it more closely.
The 15 page letter had reverted back to handwritten, classical Japanese but she could still read it. That all by itself was strange. Taking a deep breath she looked back to the man in front of her.
"Do you mind telling me who you are?" she asked in Japanese.
"You already know who I am." He replied, easily hiding his surprise at the change in her speech.
Her eyes flashed and she straightened before saying, "Prove it."
He sighed and turned away. Lifting a hand the silver haired man summoned a whip of light. With a flick of his wrist he caught a bird that was passing over head, bringing it to the ground. Releasing it, he turned back to a wide eyed Astral.
"Damn..." she whispered, finally realizing that the real Sesshomaru was standing in her front yard.
Sesshomaru regarded her with slight contempt at her language and started to look away. Then his sharp eyes saw the letter clutched in her limp fingers. Using his incredible speed the sliver haired demon snatched the letter from her grasp. Astral's grey eyes blinked in surprise when she realized the pages were gone. Looking closely at Sesshomaru she saw that he was reading the letter with slowly growing anger.
"She can't be serious! Can she?" he asked himself in a dark voice.
"What?" Astral dared to ask, shifting from foot to foot.
He regarded her with a dark look before returning to the letter again. Skimming the letter again he sighed before looking back to her.
"Apparently you are one of the rarest demons of all time and I have to babysit you until you can fully understand and control your powers." Sesshomaru replied handing the letter back stiffly.
She took the letter back and couldn't stop her jaw from dropping open in shock. Today had been so normal and now she was being told by her favorite anime character that she was a demon and that he was supposed to hang around her 24/7. It was too much for one day. Before the silver haired demon could react Astral's knees collapsed and she fainted, falling right into his surprised arms.
