Author's Note: Though I'm not a fan of Twilight…I am however in love with a few of the characters…that actually have personality. Such as Jacob, Leah, Seth, Emmett, and sometimes Rosalie. :P Anywho, I hope you like!
An Outing from the Heartbreak
"Edward, can't you at least give me an explanation why?" the young shapeshifter implored. "Why…you're willing to throw away everything that we've been through together…me nearly getting banned from La Push, having to pry away the role of Alpha from Sam just…just so I can be with you?"
From the other side of the clearing, Edward's topaz eyes burned with intensity into Jacob's brown orbs. The sight of his pup on the verge of tears was far too much for Edward to endure...the pain of Jacob's heartache was practically floating through the forest into Edward's cold chest.
"Jacob…love…our days together…they mean so much to me…I would never be able to go on if anything ever happened to you…but Bella…"
Jacob cringed at hearing her name.
"Bella…she is my singer…I can't…I cannot bring myself to stay away from her, no matter how much I try." Edward lowered his head to the ground in shame.
Jacob feared hearing these words…his lover's behavior in the past days had indicated that something was on his mind. Jacob and Edward, meant to be sworn enemies, had fallen in love the moment Jacob phased and found out the truth behind the Cullens. On the night before Jacob's wolf had awakened, he was ambushed outside a shopping center by a thug while out on a trip with his visiting sisters. Wanting to catch some air, having gone through that wretched perfume department, he was dragged into an alleyway and nearly raped by some sick perv…but was saved by an irate Edward who chased off the thug.
The rest was history…
"Bella?" Jacob gasped incredulously. "She's the one you want?"
Edward, not needing to say any words, gave Jacob a solemn nod.
"Are you FUCKING KIDDING ME?" Jacob cried, tears threatening to spill. "You're throwing away seven fucking months for some girl you've only known for three days?"
Though what Jacob said was true, Edward's choice was made…and he wasn't changing his mind…no matter how much it hurt Jacob.
"Jacob," Edward whispered. "If you only knew how strong the draw is to her…I…can't help but want to be wherever she is…watch her sleep at night…even through our time in the meadow―"
"Meadow?" Jacob's eyes widened. "Our meadow?"
Edward mentally smacked himself for not thinking before he spoke.
"You took her to our meadow?" Jacob exclaimed. "I…I don't even…who are you? How…how the hell could you do this to me?"
Edward felt as though he was staring at someone other than Jacob…the shaking frame, the tears running down his eyes, the pleading look…this wasn't the haughty wolf that he had fallen in love with…he had become a child…a heartbroken child…and Edward wanted to die for having caused that child this pain.
Completely in shock, images of his and Edward's times together flashed through Jacob's mind: Jacob, while still human, riding on Edward's back as he ran through the seemingly never-ending rows of trees, while Jacob smiled with content, holding as tightly as he could onto Edward's neck; Jacob, in his wolf form, jumping in front of his mate before Paul, having learned of their "outrageously disgusting" relationship, could rip Edward to pieces, and showing no mercy as he used his teeth to shatter nearly every bone in his former packmate's body; the smiling faces of the Cullens ― excluding Rosalie ― as Edward introduced them to Jacob; Edward chuckling at the childishness of Emmett and Jacob as Emmett, the sore loser, insisted that Jacob had somehow cheated at a silly video game they were playing; Jacob curled up on Edward's chest in the meadow, Jacob, having phased, wearing only a pair of cutoff shorts, while Edward smiled adoringly down at the sleeping wolf…
It was all too much for Edward to handle…he clutched his head at the vivid images flooding his mind. "Jacob…please, stop…"
"Why?" Jacob choked. "Does all of it hurt you that much? Does what we had make you sick now? Is that it?"
"NO!" Edward shouted automatically. "No, Jacob…it's just…"
"There's only enough room in your head for her." Through Jacob's tears, the anger finally began to reach the surface. "You're so full of shit, Cullen. OUT OF EVERYTHING THAT I WOULD HAVE SACRIFICED TO BE WITH YOU, YOU DO THIS!"
Edward took a step towards Jacob, wanting so desperately to comfort him.
Jacob recoiled in disgust. "If you touch me, I will kill you."
"Jake…" Edward gasped.
"Shut up!" Jacob screamed and grasped his head. "Shut up! Do not ever call me that again! YOU FUCKING LEECH!"
Even before Jacob himself had known it, his clothes were destroyed as he phased and ran in the opposite direction.
"JACOB!" Edward called, immediately taking off after the running shapeshifter. Jacob ran at full speed through the forest, the sweet sound of Edward's velvety voice calling for him. The more Edward called his name, the farther the russet wolf's legs propelled. Jacob would have been halfway to the borderline by now if it wasn't for the top of this head slamming into the cold body. The wolf let out a startled yelp as he and the vampire toppled together in a bundle and impacted into a nearby tree, leaving a deep fissure in its bark. Lying in a position with Jacob's back to the tree and the cold one lying on his side, his frame slowly settling into the wolf's fur, the startled vamp sat up.
"Jacob? Where's the fire mutt?" The cold one was none other than Emmett.
Jacob couldn't answer; whimpers escaped from the wolf's muzzle and Jacob shifted back to his human form. Emmett, knowing his weight could crush the boy, hopped off Jacob's back. Emmett stared in befuddlement as the tears spilled from Jacob's eyes, and gentle sobs escaped his lips.
"Whoa, hey, did I hurt you?" Emmett asked, squatting down to examine the wolf; if Jacob Black – Jacob fucking Black – was crying his eyes out, Emmett figured that he had to have inflicted some major pain onto his body. Jacob shoulders heaved up and down; there was no pain from the impact that had just happened…but there was pain nonetheless.
"Hey…" Emmett had grown somewhat attached to the boy after a few months; the boys were on somewhat good terms. When Emmett touched his shoulder, Jacob, almost instantly, threw his head into Emmett's shoulder, not caring how weak he appeared, desperately seeking comfort. Emmett was stunned as he felt the warm wetness of Jacob's tears soak into the fabric of his gray t-shirt.
Through his sadness, Jacob took a brief second to wonder when the hell he had become such a girl. Did being with Edward soften his will? Was being wrapped around his finger taking away his own self-respect and dignity? Was this a vampire's true ability? To, in a matter of speaking, lure the prey in close enough to kill.
Emmett put and arm around the vulnerable shifter and pulled him to his chest.
"Jacob, what happened?" Emmett asked tenderly.
"…Emmett…" Jacob sniffed, not knowing how to say what had just occurred.
Author's Note: I know, poor Jake to have let someone close only to have it turn on him...but there's hope.
