Half-Blood Care Home
Annabeth
Why? Why them and not me? We had had a great day at the beach, laughing and chatting together and then came the ride home. The crash that killed both my parents.
My whole life ruined in just a few minutes. Now I'm an orphan- it should've been me not mom and dad! Now I'm alone and I'll never see or hear them again. I wish we'd spent more time together as a family. My mom is- was an amazing architect while my father was a university professor. Both had jobs that stopped us from being a family and when they decided to have a day off and take me out all hell breaks lose!
"We're here," my social worker says, bringing me out of my thoughts. She stops the car and gets out. She opens the door for me and I slowly get out trying hard not to hit my broken arm. She opens the trunk and grabs my bags while I take one with my good hand.
She walks into the garden and up the porch while I look at the building in front of me. It is a four-story house that looks newly made. It has a large front garden, one side full with flowers and wooden benches; the other containing a football goal and a basketball post. A path, made with small stones, leads to the wooden porch and separates the two parts of the garden. There's a black sign placed a few inches above the door that, despite my dyslexia I can still read, says, 'Half-Blood Care Home' in thick gold writing. I'll be living here until I'm eighteen years old- for six years.
Jenny, my social worker, is waiting at the door for me so I make my way up the path. When I reach the porch she gives me a small smile and knocks the door.
I hear several, "I'll get it's" and lot's of feet running to the door before it opens and reveals six children.
"Hi, Jenny!" the pretty girl squeals while the others stare at me. I bet they think I look disgusting with my normally clean curly blonde hair, greasy, and puffy red eyes from crying.
"Hey, Silena," Jenny replies and looks at the other children, "Beckendorf, Nico, Thalia, Grover and Juniper- meet Annabeth Chase!"
They all smile at me but I just look each of them up and down and then look away.
"Children, let the ladies come in!" A kind voice says and the small crowd moves to the side.
The man rolls his wheelchair closer to us and smiles at me, "I'm Chiron- head care worker. You must be Annabeth Chase." It's not a question but I nod slightly anyway.
"Come on in," he says and rolls backwards to let us come inside. We walk in and Jenny closes the door behind us.
Chiron rolls into another room and me and Jenny follow. He's sitting behind a large wooden desk when we get inside so we sit down in the seats opposite him.
He starts talking about the care home and the rules and after about an hour he stops talking. I have to admit I didn't listen to one thing that he said. "Any questions?" he asks and I shake my head. "Anything I can do for you?"
"Bring my mom and dad back," I want to say but I don't. Tears fill my eyes and I shake my head again before quickly looking away.
"Very well," he replies, "I'll give you a quick tour and introduce you to everyone."
"I have to go now, Annabeth," Jenny says and I nod.
Chiron and I walk her to the door he says goodbye while I just nod my head.
He shows me around and I'm surprised to see an in-door swimming pool near the back garden. He introduces me to everyone and I find out I'm living with fourteen other kids.
"Two people share a room but only of the same sex," Chiron tells me as we ride up in the elevator. I was surprised they had an elevator but I thought it was a good idea to have one. "You'll be having your very own until another female moves here."
I just nod and soon the elevator doors open.
"This is the fourth floor. It has two bedrooms and two bathrooms but you'll be the only one up here," he says.
He opens a door and I walk in after him. My eyes widen when I see the bedroom. It is quite big. The walls are a nice light grey with different size flowers painted a glittery silver colour. There are two beds on opposite sides of the room along with two wardrobes, two desks and two shelves. There's a TV attached to the wall and two beanbags to sit on.
"Do you like it?" Chiron asks and I nod and even curl my lips- just a tiny bit.
"I'll leave you to settle in," he says, "and I'll send someone up when it's dinnertime." I nod again and he leaves.
I walk over to the bed by the window and lay down. I can cry now I'm alone, I tell myself and salty tears start swimming down my cheeks. I un-pack my clothes and stick photographs of my mom and dad to the wall.
I lay back down when I finish and curl up on my side. I feel exhausted and close my eyes all the while thinking- why? Why them? Soon I fall asleep.
REVIEW! Next chapter is going to be four years later when Percy comes.
