For years I stood alone, forlorn,
The past an ever present pain,
Til you returned and hope was born,
Recalling all there was to gain.
For reason never held its sway
Upon my heart, which ever beat
Alone for you from day to day
And so I always thought we'd meet
Once more, and so we did and I
Felt happiness within my grasp
And for that one brief moment
I believed that it would always last.
Too short the time before you left,
Your sweet soul winging like a dove
Straight to Heaven, and I bereft,
With nothing in this world to love.
I could have lived, yet could not wait
To lightly throw my life away.
Did I rebel against, surrender to my fate?
With my last breath, I cannot say.
