I remember tears streaming down your face
When I said I'll never let you go
"No!" I shouted, as one of the agents tried to pry me away from Lila, my little sister, but I refused to believe she was dead.
"Sweetheart, she's gone," one of them said.
"No, no, no! She promised! She promised! Breathe, Chérie, breathe!" I shrieked desperately.
When all those shadows almost
Killed your light
It was so dark, I couldn't see anything but the Agents' dim flashlights. Usually, as mom says, my personality would 'light up the room'. But now, what was left of me was scared, cold and mad.
I remember you said,
'Don't leave me here alone,'
Lila's voice rang in my ears as I pushed on her chest, "Don't leave me here alone, Ri. What if they come and get me?" I could still feel her ice cold hands squeezing mine for reassurance.
But all that's dead and gone is past is gone tonight…..
I finally gave up, but didn't budge. I was petrified. I couldn't breathe. I was so caught up, I didn't realize one of the agents had picked up Lila and I. We were both placed on a seat in the FBI's SUV.
Just close your eyes
The suns going down
I fought to keep my eyes open as I saw the sunrise, remembering all the moments with Lila I had.
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now,
"It's alright, honey. He gone, he can't hurt you anymore." One of the agents said, rubbing my back in soothing circles.
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound.
"It's almost morning, and you're safe and sound." My mother had once said, after a fire. I started to sob. I looked outside. I placed my hand gingerly on the window. In my memory I saw flames, engulfing everything as we rode by, I shrank back.
Don't you dare look out your window,
Darling, everything's on fire.
The war outside our door keeps raging on.
I heard my fathers' voice, "Stand up for your Country, April. Make us all proud." He never came back from Afghanistan. I wiped more tears, but even more kept coming.
Hold on to this lullaby
Even when the music's gone
Gone.
"Votre toujours sûr, dans les bras de ta mère, juste faire attention de votre choix, parce qu'elle peut vous mener sur le mauvais chemin L'amour de votre mère et de l'amour de votre famille." I sang my mothers' lullaby she had once sung to me.
Just close your eyes
The sun's going down
You'll be alright,
No one can hurt you know.
I almost closed my eyes at the thought of being safe. The sun was now down, and we had arrived at the hospital. I was scared to death. What if I don't make it through the surgery I was bound to get? Sensing my fear, a woman with jet black hair squeezed my hand.
"You'll be fine. I promise." She whispered. I smiled, then after a dose of anesthesia, I was out.
In the morning, I made it through. They said I was okay. I was still trying to cope with Lila's death, but as the agents said, I was safe and that's all that mattered.
Come morning light,
You and I'll be safe and sound.
OOH! A LINE! A LINE! FOLLOW THE BLACK BOLD LINE! JK. FOLLOW THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD, IT'S THAT AWAY! I'M FUNNY. CM
