She sat on the swing leaning her head against the chain link of the left side over her fist.
Her black tinted hair fell into her face, she exhaled, a white puff coming from her mouth.
"It's late." The voice of her tween brother penetrated the silence, she looked up at him slightly.
"I know." She responded slowly, as if testing the words on her tongue.
"Cold too." Dash inquired, pulling up a chair in front of her slowly- not using his gift of speed.
"Yup." The 'p' popped a little too loud for Vi's taste, swooping a clump of hair behind her right ear.
"He didn't go to the Valentine's dance with you, did he?" Dash sat down, looking up at his sister.
"Worse. He said he'd go with me, then stood me up to go with Trisha Downe. He dumped me." Her voice cracked.
"Let me guess. Head cheerleader? Pretty? Dumb-as-a-post?" Dash asked, smiling at his sister.
Vi smiled, she was happy he tried to make her feel better.
And it was working.
"Something like that." She laughed slightly, swinging back and forth a little.
"You're smarter and prettier than any cheerleader, Vi." Dash said, smiling downward.
"You really think so?" Vi looked at her brother, his eyes cast down.
She wanted to meet his eyes, to see he wasn't lying.
Dash looked into her eyes, smiling, "Of course."
Dash leaned closer to his sister as he stood, he felt the need to be closer to her.
Vi felt her breath hitch, she had no idea what Dash was thinking.
"D-dash." Vi said softly.
Dash was centimeters away from his sister, he leans his forehead against hers.
"Vi, don't let some guy define your worth. You're better than that. You're beautiful."
The last part came out in a rush but Vi heard it.
This eloquence wasn't like him, or any twelve-year-old, she knew.
"Where did you learn to talk so smooth?" Vi tried to joke.
"I don't know what you mean, I'm only saying the truth." Dash said normally.
"Then why do I feel like you're lying to me." She whispered.
"But it's true. See?" He leaned forward and pressed his lips against hers briefly.
It was short enough to be considered a family-oriented kiss.
It was safe.
Then Vi whispered, "This is wrong."
"You don't think I know that?... I know." Dash said softly.
"Dash..." she said softly.
"Yeah?"
"No one can know." She said a little louder, kissing his lips softly.
The gift that you give to me
No one knows*
Author's Note:
The last two lines are from No One Knows by Queens of the Stone Age, I felt a need to add that at the end. haha
If you want me to continue this one-shot as a story, review.
