And another drabble, this time from Marshall's POV! Yay! I was inspired to write this while watching the second season episode, Duplicate Bridge. Basically it's what happens from Marshall's realization that Norma is going to blow the bridge, to the part when Mary and Marshall are looking over the car at the burning bridge. It's very short and sweet. Enjoy.
Disclaimer: Not mine!
Marshall's heart thundered in his chest; he knew his witness, and he knew that Norman was going to blow the bridge. He had tried his damnedest to stop him, but all the words in the world wouldn't change Norman's mind.
He could feel Mary beside him, feel her tremble with anger and helplessness. She hated feeling so out of control, so powerless, but at the moment, there was nothing he could do about it. And he knew it. The only thing he could do was get her the hell off of the bridge before Norman released the switch.
"How do you know?"
"Because I know my witness."
His hands shot out and gripped her forearms. "Mary…" By this point, he knew that Norman didn't care if they were on the bridge or not, and he would die before he let something happen to Mary. So he did the only thing he knew to do.
"No!" She struggled to get away from his grip. "Norman…"
Panic rose up in Marshall's chest. Get Mary off the bridge, his head screamed at him.
With a sudden burst of energy and strength, Marshall dragged Mary toward the police cars at the end of the bridge, to safety.
Just as they reached safety, Norman released the switch. There was a thunderous explosion, and Marshall could feel the heat on his back as he shoved Mary to safety behind a car door. Debris flew through the air, smoldering and out of control. Without a second thought, Marshall pushed Mary close to the ground. Then he covered her with his body, his arms instinctively going around her and holding her tight, Officers were yelling and the explosions continued, but Marshall didn't care. He had Mary, and she was safe. He would keep her safe. Anything else was secondary.
He closed his eyes and held her tighter, registering the tremors that went through her body and the ground beneath their feet.
"I've got you, Mare. I won't let go."
A/N: Aww. Just as Mary would protect Marshall, he would protect her. Thanks for reading, and please review!
