Thanks! I'm currently editing and adding to this story as I was very rushed while writing it. It will be longer and more filled out when I'm done. I posted the prologue and will be posting about a chapter per week if RL cooperates.
The 2009 MEFA results are official. I am very pleased to announce that four of my stories placed. I am very thankful to those who nominated me and those who reviewed all my stories nominated. This was a great award year.

Wow, congrats NiRi! :)

*snort* No, it's only 20 to date. :)
20?! Wow, NiRi!
You could seriously get something published with that talent. :)

Somehow I missed this. What I get for having alerts turned off, I suppose. Thank you for the vote of confidence. I am not so certain, however. I really have a weakness when it comes to plot building. One shots I can pull off well (and those are what win the contests), but long novels? *shudders at the thought* I need to work on bulding plots first! But one day... ;)
And speaking of winning stuff...my latest tied for first in January's Teitho. ;)
Freedom Is Never Free by Nieriel Raina — Freedom is not free. Aragorn remembers how he has learned that painful lesson over the course of his life. 1st Place January 2010 Teitho Contest – The Price of Freedom

You could do anthologies or write for magazines.

Well, I've personally never won a contest, but nearly all of my serious stories (non-parody) are one shots. I'm working on this massive Feanor/Nerdanel fic that goes along the lines of Pride and Prejudice and it's so hard!
But I really think that you could definitely write something longer and publish it. You've got real talent, NiRi. :)
Edit: Oh, and congrats on your tie for first in Teitho! *claps*

I'm considering starting an online newsletter about dogs: health, diet, grooming, etc. and featuring some human interest stories from on the job. Boy could I tell some tales! ;P

Novels are NOT easy to write. At least not those with layered plots. I feel your pain. They seem to take years to write. World building is HARD!
Have you ever written for the Teitho or ALEC, Ara? Your writing is very good. You should give it a shot!

Awwww... Thank you! I've thought about writing some children's novels (those are short and more simple in plot). We'll see. I have about four original stories started on my harddrive. I just can't shut my Tolkien muses up long enough to work on them. ;P

Thanks! I was kind of surprised this time around. I didn't think it would place. I don't write 1st person POV much. ;P

I know, I really wanted to try writing it to see if I could get into the MEFAs this year, but right now it doesn't look like it's going to get finished any time soon. Ah well.

Aw, thanks! Well, the problem with writing for contests and monthly challenges is that my muse is rather random and likes sporadic writing, which is why I can never get anything finished on time. I've tried to motivate myself for several AoE challenges but never ended up writing. And. . .well, Teitho is LotR-based, and my serious fics are usually for The Silm, because my muse is addicted to First Age Elves. The only serious, non-parody LotR story I've ever written was your birthday fic. :P

Well, know you have at least one loyal supporter with any of these ventures. :)

First person usually terrifies me! Close third person is a lot easier for me to write. . .especially since I usually write pretty angsty sort of stuff. ;)

Gah! know exactly how you feel, I'm trying to get my Aegnor/Andreth done for it but I don't want to rush writing it and so far its being a very very slow process!

I used to have a similar problem with my muse but found that the ALEC contest is actually helping it and making me work properly rather than making me struggle - aaand you can write for the silm there too which is good cos like you, I don't venture into LOTR too often.
*giggles crazily* This is the first challenge I've placed in I got third but that's alright with me! It was for the I Heart Rogan (X-men) challenge #3 and the story was called Flirting for Dummies.
