Augustus strode into the bridge proudly, grinning happily at the turn of events. Getting accepted into the Starlene's crew was perfect, a constitution class ship would look very good. And the captain's profile seemed promising enough, though the fact that this was her first time captaining made him a little jittery. Noting to look arond the rest of the ship later, he sat down at his post and looked over all the controls. Everythiing appeared to be in order.
He spun in his seat as someone entered teh door, attempting to get a better look. A simple turn of the head wouldn't have made whoever was coming in feel very important, it simply wouldn't do.5/7/2010 . Edited by Darkstar0196, 7/11/2011 #1 Report
"Commander", Casimir said, he was ambitious, maybe a bit too ambitious, but he would be fine, this was his first time posted to a constitution class ship. "I will take my seat", Casimir said, not unkindly, his place was there when she was off bridge and he was on. But this was her seat now, time to take her place as captain.
"I trust nothing happened while I started expecting the ship." She smiled and drummed her fingers on the armrest looking around the circular room, several men at their stations, helm not yet there. So they were still at dry dock, great time sitting doing nothing when she could still be talking to T'Rena. Oh well, to bad, she was here now, time to prove her worth.5/7/2010 #2 Report
"Sorry captain." He smiled, he wasn't too good at reading people (not as good as he would have liked anyway) but she didn't seem peeved at him for stealing her chair. It wasn't that he wanted to seem arrogent, just that the chair had been very very tempting. Augustus let her sit and took a free chair nearby. He had already poked around his science station, so there wasn't much left to do until they left.
The pilot's chair was empty. No one had seen their pilot or navigator at all. Nothing to do but observe the area or talk with thee captain.
"So, where is our first mission captain?" He asked, leaning back in the free chair.5/8/2010 #3 Report
"It's your place when I am off bridge. It is much better to have a first officer that is comfortable in command." Nat smiled as she quoted her last captain's first words of wisdom. "Our first mission is to the Abraxas system, there is a newly discovered class M planet, we need to explore it further to send a recommendation on if it's suitable location for a new colony." Casimir continued to drum her fingers against the arm rest of her chair, looking around approvingly at bridge. There was still no sight of the pilot or navigation.5/9/2010 . Edited 5/9/2010 #4 Report
(ACK! Super long Post and it Disappeared... X_x)
Krys leaned against a bulkhead by the Ops station, she had already looked it over, noting the sleek design, more efficient than the last ship she had served on, and also, there was a cup holder, coffee on duty? Dreams do come true! She mentally debated with herself on how to best introduce herself and was about to opt for the classic, 'Hi I'm Krys,' when another Crewmember came through the door to the turbo lift.
Dani Munroe phased through the door, her red hair was rebelling and her bangs were refusing to remain anywhere except the space right in front of her eyes. She glanced up and started, in an instance realizing that there were others on the bridge, worse yet, the Captain and First officer. She took a breath, "Uh, Hi, Um, Captain, Commander, I'm Dani…………Daniella! I mean, I'm Lieutenant Daniella Munroe, Navigation. I'm just gonna…um, go…" Dani flushed bright red and hurried over to her CONN Station, the one place she knew she wouldn't make a fool of herself. Embarrassment washed over her as she imagined The Captain's response to such an awkward introduction. God, why couldn't she just shut her mouth? Dani bit her lipped and tapped the panel, grinning and pushing her own trepidation to the back of her mind as it lit up under her fingers, this was her element.5/12/2010 . Edited 5/12/2010 #5 Report
Nat half-smiled and said, "Lieutenant", trying to hold back a full on grin and laughter. "Please put in coordinates to the Abraxas system, we will be leaving in a few minutes."
She sat tall in her chair, trying to seem bigger than herself somehow. "Lieutenant Palmer, the replicators is broken, I am not sure if it is just the rec room, or the personal ones as well."
This was it, any minute she would tell the crew they were leaving space dock, headed toward the Abraxas system. This is what it came down to, from the academy to ensign to lieutenant, to commander, and now captain, captain. just a few more stragglers had to board, and a few crew members would be picked up during the first few missions, pointless for them to travel to the Sol system when the Starlene was going to their respective systems.5/12/2010 #6 Report
Dani nodded, speaking much more confidently now, her fingers moving easily across the panel, "Course laid in, Captain. All decks except for decks 4 and 15 are reporting ready for departure. Decks 4 and 15 have yet to account for all crew-members."
Krys however paused, "Broken, Captain? This is a brand new ship, Just out of Dry-Dock. I'll have to check that out, it may just need some fine tuning." She sat down at her own station and began reading reports. "All cargo is loaded captain, including crew luggage, however not all luggage has been claimed. As soon as decks 4 and 15 report in we'll be all set."
(How big is the Starlene, is it Voyager-sized, 140-ish crew, 2 transporter rooms and 15 decks? Or is it Enterprise-D sized, with some thousand-ish people onboard [1,014, I just looked it up], 42 decks, and not 4 or 6 transporter rooms, like I originally thought, but 20. Or is it in between? Say 400 people, 25 decks and 6 transporter rooms.....ish.....)5/12/2010 . Edited 5/13/2010 #7 Report
Augustus couldn't help but snicker a little at the flustered navigator, not that he was trying to be mean, it was just funny watching her run through the door all flustered and whatnot. A case off the jibblies was heading his way for her to be able to go THROUGH the door, but it was probably nothing to be worried about. races with special powers that joined Star Fleet tended to be nice when using them.
Captain Casimir seemed to feel rather happy with her current state of affairs, with good reason. She was going to head out her first real mission as a captain, on a Constitution Class starship no less. There was no problem in her feeling proud, and with the undocking only a few moments away, what could possibly go wrong?
He hopped out of his seat and strode over to his actual science desk, the position he would be occupying on the bridge for most of the trip, it all had that 'new car smell' taht people way back when had always loved. He had always hated it, it never felt really lived-in until the smell was gone. still, he'd just grin and bear it for the moment.5/12/2010 #8 Report
Krys tapped on the panel, occasionally glancing or at the status screen to her right, within minutes she tapped off the console and reached underneath, withdrawing a relatively well-equipped tool-kit, and stood up. "Captain, contact me when we are nearing time for departure, as of now," she smiled, "I'm going to go check on those Replicator systems you were talking about." She gave a quick mock salute and a smile and exited via the turbolift.
Dani grinned and shook her head at the impulsive Engineer, just as she remembered from Ship's Anatomy at the academy, always good with the teacher, or in this case, the Captain. She sighed, maybe eventually, but she herself would have to work on her communication skills, this was why she'd turned down her mother's suggestion of taking a role as a Communications officer.5/13/2010 #9 Report
"Tell me as soon as the decks report, I would like to get out as soon as possible", Casimir didn't like doing nothing, at least the other officers could do some type of work, she couldn't do anything until underway. Boldly going was having to wait, and Nat didn't like it one bit.
With nothing better to do she walked to the dedication plaque that was just left to the view screen. It was simple USS STARLENE in bold print, that filled most of the plaque. The Federation's charter to find new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before was underneath the name of the ship in slightly smaller, and finally the stardate it and her name as its first captain.
(Are we waiting for people to make the last few senior officers, or can we take off and just say it isn't their shift yet. As far as I can see all we are missing is linguistics officer and possibly a security/tactical, and both of those can be used with a grain of salt, I guess helm and navigation are two separate posts, but once again, we can use it with a grain fo salt until we get more people in the RP)5/13/2010 #10 Report
(We can boldly go now if you'd like, but I'm leaving over the weekend though so I guess its up to you)
Dani leaned back in her chair and tested the response times for the fifth time, and jumped as the console started beeping, "Captain! Decks 4 and 15 now reports ready, all crew-members on board, all cargo on board, we're ready to go."
She slapped her com-badge, "Munroe to Palmer."
----In the Rec-Room----
Krys dropped her tool into the case and glanced upwards at nothing in particular as the Comm. system beeped, "go ahead."
"Decks 4 and 15 have reported in, we're in preparation for final departure."
"Got it, I'm on my way."5/14/2010 #11 Report
(We can wait considering your characters make a quarter of the bridge crew)
Casimir went back to her chair.
"Good, once Palmer get on bridge we can leave." Now was when the boredom ended and the excitement began. Just minutes away from exploring, like the sailing ships from ancient times, going to uncharted worlds, it was almost too much to think she was captain.5/14/2010 #12 Report
Krys bounced excitedly in the Turbo lift, chewing the inside of her lip and tapping out a rhythm on her thigh. The USS Starlene was a gorgeous ship, with 460 Crew Complement and she was in charge of several of its vital systems, it was a thrill to realize such,= and the adrenaline coursing through the young Lieutenant's veins was enough to making her bounce even as she tried to calm herself.
She entered the bridge and hurried to her station as the doors slid shut behind her. Fingers flying across the panel, she access various systems with a practiced ease and made her reports. "All decks, all systems reporting ready, Captain, on your command, Lieutenant Munroe can take us out."5/17/2010 #13 Report
Augustus grinned at the prospect of finally getting out of dock, finally! It was taking far too long, but the crew was being hard to find, still, some more people were bound to show up. Probably just lazing around the lower decks and stuff. No big deal, though the helm being late could be a problem if they were being targeted at all...
He'd have to talk with the helmsperson later about being on time, especially for the maiden voyage. It was crucial that they make it to the first mission with nary a stutter. How else would they be respected, the ship was new and had no record so far, and while the crew was sterling, there was nothing backing them up just yet. It was important for everyone to be there.5/17/2010 #14 Report
"Good, Starlene communications authorization code five alpha gamma nine three four, Casimir." She said, ready to make her first ship wide announcement.
"Accepted", the computer responded, good she remembered the code.
"Hello this is your captain speaking, the Starlene is about to leave space dock. It will take five days to reach the star system. End communication." She sat back in her seat "Warp five, engage." And they were off.
((nary a stutter, I love your killer vocab.))5/17/2010 #15 Report
Dani glanced over at Augustus' expression and grinned herself. She placed a hand on the edge of the console to steady herself, but carried out the orders despite her precarious perch between the Helmsman and the Navigation's chairs. She giggled slightly as the Captain ordered Warp 5 despite the fact that they hadn't even released the Docking clamps, "Raring to go, I see, Ma'am. Don't worry, As soon as we clear the docking clamps, we'll be away."
She slid back into her own seat and looked over expectantly at Krys. Krys caught the look, "Disengaging Docking Clamps.........Clamps are Clear, proceed, I recommend one eighth implulse."
"I'll go for one sixteenth and then guide her out with thrusters, I'm not buggering up anything on our first spin around the block." Daniella inputed the speed and manual adjusted the thruster variance until the USS Starlene cleared the space dock.
"We're ready, Captain, Course laid in for the Axabras System, Warp five." She tapped the controls, "Engaged." The Ship hummed as the engines warmed up and in a flash of light and stars, the Starlene blasted into Warp.5/17/2010 #16 Report
The stars on the view screen blurred as the went into warp, and everything seemed to be going off without a hitch.
That was until Lieutenant Palmer's face turned even paler than normal and singled yellow alert about three hours into the flight.
"What's wrong." Casimir asked as they went out of warp.
(set it up for you to say, hope you don't mind)5/22/2010 #17 Report
(Haha, that's fine, I don't mind, Plot Twists are my specialty, thinking ahead? Eh Not so much, Also, what are the controls like, because in TNG and VOY, they're panels and touch-screens, but in TOS, it's levers, buttons and blinky lights. I know this is a Constitution Class, but are the Controls anything like those on the Enterprise?)
"I'm picking up a Plasma trail and faint Energy distortions, Possibly meaning a cloaking device. Whether it's Romulans or something else, it's impossible to tell." Her eyes flicked back and forth between readings, "The trail is continuing and the distortions are moving, Orders, Captain?"5/22/2010 #18 Report
(The movie that the RP goes by has touch screens, so that's probably what we'll be using. :) )
Augustus nodded with her assessment. "She's right, based on energy readings and the distortions it's a Romulan ship, no doubt about it." Though what it was doing so far out of the neutral zone was a bit beyond him right now. "What's puzzling is why it's so far from home. Most Romulans refuse to have anything to do with anyone from offworld, what would they be doing here?" His brows knitted together in consentration, he attempted to figure out what was going on with the new appearance of the ship.5/22/2010 #19 Report
(Yes, but I also seem to remember Ent D raving at me about the new ship messing things up because the alternate universe constitution class is about twice the size of the TOS C Class, I don't think she likes the whole alternate reality thing all that much. lol)
Suddenly Krys paused, "Captain, the readings are gone, I think they're blocking our sensors somehow. Now I'm reading a Tachyon/Tetryon Flux at bearing 278 mark 1, the distortions were at bearing 82 mark 9, exactly opposite."
Dani tensed up and bit and rolled her shoulders to relax, Excitement, that was why she'd signed on, this was part of the job, just part of the job, she shook her head, "Holding course and speed, Captain."5/22/2010 #20 Report
(Its fine, the new ship is kick ass, no one can deny it, I think the canon solution being the Narada attacking the Kelvin caused the Federation to up their technology, so they had to be able to fight a ship a hundred years ahead of their time. And I like the alternate reality, XI is what got me into trek, I saw it, started watching TNG on TV, and on thing lead to another and now I can speak some Vulcan. But I do have some issues with the alternate universe, lets just hope Kirk doesn't get killed by a bridge in this one lol)
"Well we know whatever brought them out here it isn't to wish the new ship luck. " Nat shook her head. "All languages, all frequencies, tell the ship that we are aware they are in are vicinity and mean them no harm. We are just a science ship that wants to know why Romulans are so far into Federation Space." However they wouldn't tell the Romulans that this science vessel had an advance weapon system.
"Rase sheilds." Casimir tried to stay calm, this wasn't her first time dealing with Romulans, but she had hoped being captain of a science ship would mean dealing with them less. A mission that goes as planed, that would be the day.
She hit her com badge "Casimir to T'Rena expect possible cauaties." That was her training, when dealing with Romulans casualties are a real and ever present possibility, even though it was a little tougher with two Romulans under her command to say the simple words.5/22/2010 #21 Report
T'Rena tapped her com badge in return. She was used to communicators, but these new ones were a little, well, unfamiliar. Though that was to be expected. "T'Rena to bridge, confirmed." She was tempted to ask of what origin, but if it was important she would be told. She trusted Nat enough to know that.
Still... there was a nagging suspicion at the apprehension the captain was trying to shield from the link they had... and while she couldn't leave the medbay, there were other ways of seeing what was going on up there. She opened a private communications line between the medbay and one of the small personal video screens. Just enough to receive audio without arousing suspicion. It wasn't enough to get into trouble, she had a right to know what was heading her way. She just chose to do it in a less-direct way.5/22/2010 . Edited 5/22/2010 #22 Report
(Well OK then, perfect, panels it is, I never could get used to all the blinky lights anyway xD. Ever noticed that when it's just a girl in some of the TOS shots, the picture is lighter, glowy and a little bit fuzzy with an ethereal air about it and some light from nowhere? btw, I like the theory about the Narada's influence on technology.)
"I have sent the Hail, Ma'am, no response yet. Shields are up" (No specifically communications officer yet, so I figured why not =D)5/22/2010 #23 Report
(thx, I just figure that necessity spawns innovation, especially when dealing with a crazy 24th century mining vessel. And the communication would go to our linguistic officer, but they haven't been accepted yet. Oh well, it kind of reminds me of "Encounter at Farpoint", where they don't have Riker, Crusher, or La Forge when dealing with Q for the first time)
Casimir sighed and drummed her fingers on the armrest, "Casimir authorization code beta three alpha, we are going to code yellow."
The Starlene was a damn sitting duck, "Why can't a starship have a nice dull madden voyage?" She mused out loud, why she was upset when waiting to get out of space dock and into action she didn't quite know.
(and TOS does have some horrible shots, but it was the 60s so we need to cut them some slack, it did have its great moments, like the first interracial kiss on TV, , it was the birth of modern fanfiction, two of its characters started slash as we know it, and the fact it was the start for a killer franchise)5/22/2010 #24 Report
(I know it would, but they're not here to receive it, or to hail, soo, I was filling in, like an good multi-talented starfleet officer... =D)
Krys pounded the console, "Dangit, they keep appearing and disappearing and....Uh Oh, Captain, Ship decloaking off our Starboard bow!"
Daniella's hand were on her own console within seconds, "Orders, Captain?"5/22/2010 #25 Report
(*salutes your awesomeness*)
"One more attempt at making this peaceful, hail the ship in all frequencies and languages, tell them if they ignore the hail it will be taken as an act of hostility. Either they are damaged and couldn't remain cloaked or they want a fight. If they don't answer the frequency fire enough to show them what we can do, and hail them again. If they fire on us pull out all we got." That was the Federation, try to make peace if you can, fire if you can't.
It seemed to follow an old quote Casimir once heard about speaking softly and carrying a big stick.5/22/2010 . Edited 5/24/2010 #26 Report

(Well, now the newbies have been approved, so be prepared to meet the helmsman. ^^)
T'Rena sighed and turned to her first patient. "You're cleared for duties Ensign Whitman." She shooed a young man off her examination table. "I'll alert the captain. Now go."
Chance rolled his eyes. As far as doctors went, Vulcans were the ones that he trusted. This woman was a bit off of the normal Vulcan, but she was apparently half Romulan, still, not as nerve wracking as he would have expected. He saluted and ran off to the bridge. T'Rena sighed and pushed her com badge. "T'Rena to Bridge, Ensign Whitman heading your way."
Chance bounded into the bridge at top speed, skidding and landing squarely in his chair at the helm. He had gotten a little tied up with things and there was that whole business with the faulty transporter and the possibility of it messing with his arm. He had had to report to an experienced mechanic and the medical bay before being cleared for duties. He had been listening in on his com badge so he knew what was going on. He smiled to the captain and saluted. "Ensign Whitman reporting Captain." He was itching to man the controls, they were easy pickings if he didn't get to work.5/23/2010 #28 Report
"Ensign", Casimir acknowledged. "Palmer move us to red alert. Whitman are you aware of our present situation?"
(well from what Teal and I were talking about something, accept the hail and I believe she will be doing the honors of the enemy ship's hail)5/23/2010 #29 Report
Chance nodded, "Yes Ma'am." He responed promptly, not wanting to tick off his captain while there was a red alert.
A trilling sound came from the hailing frequncy, and he leaped into action. With no linguistics officer at the station at the moment, he decieded to take part. "The ship is hailing us! Opening communication channel!" The image appeared on the screen, showing the interior of a Romulan Bird Of Prey. A tall male Romulan stood in their line of sight.
"Hello captain." The politeness was strained, as if he couldn't stand talking to a human. Considering the xenophobic culture of his planet, he probably couldn't.5/23/2010 #30 Report
