As you folks are doubt aware, writing fanfiction means we are borrowing someone elses property and basically playing in thier sandbox. There are some entities in this world that would consider that a copywrite infringment, despite how little of the actual material is used. Under current laws we are all protected...
However if the SOPA bill passes we won't be. Ever last one of us could be charged as felons and not only this site but others like Fimfiction (a site dedicated to My Little Pony fanfics), Facebook, Youtube, Twitter and basically the entirety of the internet could be blacklisted by the outdated thinking of the dinosaurs in control of corporate entities like UMG, Disney, Warner Brothers and the rest of Holliwood. In addition to basically crushing the freedoms we enjoy on the internet it would directly supress free speech by block the wepsites commonly used for such discussion.
As a majority of websites are actually run and maintained in the US if SOPA passes it would not only supress the free speech of Americans, but those from other nations as well.
In essence, SOPA is unconstitutional by US standards, and downright criminal by international standards for the effect it would have outside the USA's borders.
If you haven't already I urge you to lend your support to killing this bill by visiting sites like AmericanCensorship and signing thier petitions, and if possible trying to get others to do so as well.
I don't want to loose this site to this stupid bill... I don't want to lose the friends I've made here because of corporate greed...

12/23/2011 #2 ReportI'm very against SOPA. I've already signed a petition and joined my friends on Facebook to make everyone aware of it. I mean, even art sites like Deviantart would suffer because a lot of great fan art gets posted to them.

Other then signing petitions yourself you can get friends and family to sign them as well. Just because there isn't alot we can do, doesn't mean we can't lend our voices to those who can.
