So so sad
So sympathetically written.
Brought back so many memories of myself and my childhood friends sitting at my mums bedside for her last moments too..

An interesting, emotional AU of Jackson Gibbs' passing. It was better in your story than on the show, where Leon coldly informed Leroy that his father was dead. Of course, since Ralph Waite had passed away in real life, there was no possibility of having a scene with him in the show.
It was nice to see Leroy and Jackson having some closure and that Leroy started to recognize that Ms. Hannigan was a positive in his fathers life.
One reviewer was hostile to Ellie Bishop and thought it inappropriate that she was there. She always seemed to me to be a very compassionate person, much more pleasant than Kate, Ziva and Abby, and I thought her behavior was proper and kind, like she is. The only incident I thought was unlikely, was that Leon Vance would allow the entire team to travel out of state at the same time, even in such wrenching circumstances. Nice story.

A quiet, painless passing, with friends and family by his side. What a beautiful, sweet story.

Although very sad, it would be one of the top 5 episodes in the entire saga of NCIS! The addition of Jack Gibbs to the show was an excellent choice by the writers and the debut episode of Jack Gibbs and the Banana Yellow Hemi Challenger he had acquired and kept for his long lost son Jethro, has always been my favorite. It is always hard to say bye to loved ones in life and fictional characters. Many people can and do identify with certain people and characters based on people they know in their own personal lives. Ralph Waite was identified by many as "Pa Walton" from the Walton's. He had very accomplished acting career as well as Political ambitions. Later in his life, he became known as "Jackson Gibson" and identified by many new fans especially in rural areas as the local country store clerk as many rural areas still have. NCIS allowed Ralph Waite to identify and be re-introduced to a whole new generation of fans. The Character of "Jackson Gibbs" will be missed by many fans as well as Ralph Waite himself will be missed by many as well. The episode described above is a tear jerker and a very fitting way to say good bye to a beloved character by numerous fans and other cast & crew of the show we all love known as NCIS. RIP Jack (Ralph Waite)

That was lovely. Brought a tear to my eye!
My only criticism is about Ellie B. She didn't know Jackson and I'm sure Gibbs wouldn't have felt comfortable with his newest agent witnessing his grief. Especially when she acts like a 12 yr old! Otherwise. Thanks. It was just what I needed to read as a nice tribute to a great actor.
I really, really hope that NCIS get it right and come up with something believable and fitting. We can but hope. Be more hopeful of that happening if there was a writer who actually understands the dynamics of the show!
But that would be too much to ask and I'll wait with bated breath!

This was beautiful, made me cry. Made me remember saying goodbye to my own father, although he was not conscious at the end, and to my stepfather, who was conscious right up to the last few minutes. So sad to see Ralph Waite go.

Wonderful story, beautifully written. I'm still crying. There needs to be a hanky alert on this story.
