The way he mulls over the many aliases he's layered over his childhood identity is an interesting shorthand for how he's hidden and almost lost himself within his cover identities. When he finally tells Stephanie to call him by his inner name of Rick, he's lowered those protective identities and let her in, and maybe stabilized his own sense of self as well.

I enjoyed this story so much. Your writing style is wonderful and you gave these favorite characters so much depth. You made them real people for us. One of the things I like about stories is how the dialogue moves along as if the reader were in on the conversation. With a good writer, you get pulled along and suddenly it's 4 or 5 hours later or 3 in the morning and your alarm is set for 7. So, here I am, getting up at noon bemoaning all the things I planned to do this morning with phone in hand, greedy for your next words, very excited that there are 39 chapters!
