This was haunting, my friend. That final section on the barricades was so exquisitely done that I'm trying not to cry in the library at college. It is a scene and a scenario that has been done by so many fanfiction writers and yet your is so beautifully, visually stunning. The jumble of Combeferre's thoughts as he died juxtaposed so well with the sudden savagery of the manner of his death. And then the almost gentle sweep of death, the final scene of the story, was such a change of pace. What I also enjoyed the most was that you ended on a positive note, that of the future and not of their death.
I know I was late, but it has been such a pleasure to read this in one sitting. Your work just keep getting better and I congratulate you for that. Well done my dear friend, well done.

The way you have allowed this narrative to enfold and evolve is truly excellent. Oh, the bloodletting scene was horrible! It really did give me the shivers.
But, as ever, the interaction and relationship you have created between these boys is wonderful to read and makes it a pleasure to review. Have fun on your course, or if you are back I hope you had fun!

P.S. Don't worry, I missed Barricade Day too.

Perfect as always. Combeferre's lack of care for himself and the idea that he is not worth there worry is heart breaking to read. What I am curious about is, is that lack of self esteem caused by the fever or does he feel that way all of the time?
As always your writing is a treat to follow and full of wonderful interactions and delicious details. Well done!

That pretty much sums it up. I have no words really... This made me cry. This final chapter was just bursting with feelings and the end was so incredibly sad... So incredibly tangibly and real... Brilliantly written mon Ami. I'm in awe at your talent and your way with words. A beautiful tribute to a beautiful cause.

I am so so sorry for the late review! But still, I'm here now and am a very happy reader I must say. Your understanding of these characters always leaves me feeling slightly jealous and this first chapter was no exception. I think what I loved the most was the way you wrote the fever. Illness can be difficult to write, but the your slightly stream of consciousness narrative style suited the situation perfectly, giving it a jumbled, out of focus feel that is synonymous with fever. Well done, mon ami!

This chapter was so tense! I really feared Combeferre was going to die but thank god he pulled through.. I hope from now on he's going to be on the mend. I really like your portrayal of Joly, how he's the responsible, professional medical student and not just the hypochondriac. I believe that he can be very professional once on the job . Looking forward to the next chapter! Well done :)

This was a precious follow up on the first chapter my dear. You had me on the edge of my seat and Combeferre's confusion along with his friends' concern is very well written. The end had me doubting if Combeferre was going to pull through though... Please do let him pull through! I know fevers are life threatening in the early 19th century, but oh my gosh, he can't die! Keep up the wonderful work dear

Again, this is such a good oneshot:) I've been really exhausted yet excited for my second to the last practice of my recital, and this helps boost my energy. Great that you were able to continue this:)

This is a great story!

This was brilliant. I love how you'e written it all from Combeferre's point of view. That way we see the story from his eyes and only know as much as he does. We can really feel his pain and his confusion. A perfect beginning of a new short story. I'm looking forward to see where you'll take this, well done!
