A few years after your story and sadly there are very few Ted/Robin stories. I think you eloquently traced Ted's thoughts as he was approaching Robin's apartment. Excellent story

First of all, this story made me smile. It's five minutes later, and I'm still smiling. It makes me smile like HIMYM always did, which is wonderful to experience again. I was a latecomer to this show - I watched bits and pieces when my dad had it on, but never whole episodes (just enough to know the characters' personalities) until the final episode was out and he was practically irate over the ending. So I sat down and watched it for real with him, and...couldn't see why it was so horrible. From the snippets I'd seen, I liked Ted and Robin. But the last episode was enough to get me hooked, so I systematically watched all the DVDs S1-S9 after that and still came to the same conclusion: that I was at peace with the ending. I loved the finale for its heartbreaking honesty but full-circle wrap of all the important plotlines, which is pretty much how you described your reaction to it in your initial author's note. Having watched The Last Forever first, I honestly can't say whether I shipped Barney and Robin or Ted and Robin...I shipped the ending in all its messiness. So thank you so much for writing this story, because I really think it helps shine a light on Ted's innermost thoughts during and after that episode. It is very true to his character and to his growth over the nine seasons, and on top of that it is beautifully and soulfully written. You're a very talented writer!

Absolutely beautiful work! I totally agree with you, I've always been a Ted/Robin fan, and I thought the finale was excellent. The delivery could've used some work maybe, but the story itself was great. And your story was a wonderful companion to it.

Beautiful story. It's great to see some fellow Mobatsky shippers. I saw the leaked alternate ending and found it trite and cheap. The one on the original broadcast was way better. It was always a story about his undying love for Robin.
Here's some constructive feedback. You should have mentioned how Robin leaves empty milk cartons in the fridge. As for the music thing, I'd have said "She may not sing La Vie en Rose, but she sings a beautiful song about friendship, i.e. The Beaver Song." I'd have also mentioned how Robin makes fart noises whenever Ted talks something intellectual.
Otherwise it is really beautifully written. Definitely post some more Mobatsky stories...we need more of them.

Oh my! You nailed it! This is exactly what I thought of the episode, I didn't particularly love the finale but I understood it and your story just explained it all. It was so beautiful I had a knot in my throat while reading it because it was head on what I figured Ted's emotions would be.

First, thank you for writing a finale story which is positive not hateful.
I think this fic, especially the 2nd half, explains very nicely the logic of Ted/Tracy/Robin, and how Ted can love both.
I especially liked the passage from, "I'm not the same guy who once stopped at her window" to "an apartment window, a guy in a suit, a blue French horn. Full circle".
I think the use of the quotes is unnecessary, but I really like your use of singular statements, like the opening line and "And, God, when she smiles".
I don't think the tone of voice is particularly Ted-like, but I get that that isn't the point in this fic.
Overall, a really interesting and original take on the finale. Thank you for pointing out that T/T, T/R and B/R shipping are all legitimate, and that shipping B/R doesn't mean hating Ted or T/R.
Hope to see more from you!
