Aaawww, how cute. Poor Fili was mourning and in sorrow I guess. That's sad.
But hey, alls well ends well, and Fili was okay in the end! I like how you incorporated Khuzul (I think that how it's spelled) into this story, I like the dwarvish language.
A lovely fanfic! Great job and keep writing more awesome stories!

This was perfect.
I admit, my favourite stories are after their father dies, when Thorin is helping Dis raise the boys. I'm not sure why, just seeing the Durin family band together like that is just precious to me.
And Fili's breakdown with Dwalin was spot on. My headcanon has always been that Dwalin and Balin both help with the education and training of the boys, and are basically part of the family.
And THIS: "he does not think he can justify his words to Thorin. Not when Thorin had a little brother too, now no more than ashes scattered on a battlefield" YES YES YES.

A beautifully written story of two brothers as they face the worst time of their lives. I would like to thank you for quoting C.S. Lewis at the beginning as well. Grief has touched everyone at some time or another and all deal with is differantly. Young Fili has enough on his plate as it is what with being the heir to the Thrown and one of the last members of the true line of Durin. The added death of his father almost took him away from his greatest of loves Kili. The picture was given to Fili by his brother not only as a replacement but out of love and respect, something Kili never faltered upon .not giving in even at the harsh words Fili gave him. I never told one I loved I hated them but my four year old son said it to me once, I told him he had better love me for I was all he had. To this day he has never repeated it and we are still all each other has to depend on. Hate filled Words should not be uttered lightly even by children. I love how Kili never beleived them.

Awww, this is so sweet! Lovely family dynamics here! Especially nice that Fíli and Kíli don't always get along perfectly. I really enjoyed seeing the different ways they grieve.
You describe the raw emotions so well. The moment that really got me was when Fíli selected a blue shirt for his father's funeral clothes. Brought up a memory of me doing the same for my dad, and actually saying "it brings out the blue in his eyes" before I realised that that was a stupid thing to say.
You even managed to give this story a happy end. I'm impressed! Lovely writing, I look forward to reading more from you!

Loved it! It was sad but I'm so glad it ended on a lighter-ish note. :)

I didn't cry. Not until I hit the ending. Now I'm crying a lot.
What I love about this is that you have captured the quietness of grief. This reminds me of when my grandfather died. There are moments when you cry and scream and sob and the world feels like it's ending, but mostly there's this... emptiness. Something is different in the air... something just isn't quite right anymore. The world is missing something, and you know what it is, and you know you can't get it back. That's how this feels.
It's so real, this piece. So true to life. And while it hurts, I appreciate it for that. It's not loud and brash and over-the-top—it's just... real. Life goes on. There are still things to do. Life doesn't stop. And you captured that perfectly. A, my dear. Absolutely stellar job.
