for Learning to love again

Anne trying to flirt. I love it. No wonder Gilbert is so confused, it's something she really doesn't have any experience with. There definitely needs to be some more flirting! I'm glad she's trying and realizes that because of the past she's going to have to be the one to somehow let him know that her feelings match his. But I understand her hesitancy, she's worried that Christine is in the picture. I am thoroughly enjoying this story and look forward to each chapter.

I love this. The apology was a nice touch

I pretty much read each line of this twice as I went... oooh, my heart was beating as fast as Gilbert's as she took his hands in hers and apologized (never realized that apology was missing until it happened, THANK YOU)... I was right there in his head while his insides were exploding with exclamation marks yet he had to keep his face calm and collected. No wonder he fled, I certainly wouldn't be able to hold that in! As to his hesitancy and wanting to be sure before he puts himself out there... you're right, he doesn't want to lose his friendship with Anne again, so that's on the line. But then again, friendship doesn't satisfy him any more now than it did then, does it?
I enjoyed watching Anne flirt a little... I know I've said before that I looove watching her having to chase him for a change. It's an uncomfortable feeling! I was also glad to get some insight into his feelings after the proposal, and I like that their thoughts were turned in a similar direction at the end. Looking forward to the next chapter :)

What a beautiful chapter. *sighs happily* It's so true to the characters and the emotions are just so ... right. It's just too beautiful and it's just so rendered well Gilbert's feelings and decision to fight for his dream. Can't to read the part about the letters and everything! When Gilbert decides it's the right time to propose to Anne again, it'll just be beautiful I know it!

But the big question is can we the reader wait as long as Gil? Loving this story! Please update soon!

oh lovely lovely lovely! i love to think of him reading her story and writing her name on the envelope, that was just such a gorgeous gift to put into my mind, i think i'll always think of that now whenever i read AotI. and him having to watch her bright eyed and beautiful as she talked to roy, it felt a very vivid and a very sensitive portrayal of unrequited love. i can easily see now why he waits so long, why he believes -just like rachel- that there will never be a third chance. my favourite part was when anne was lost in the green and golden brown specks of his eyes (so much more dazzling and memorable than hazel) for a moment there i was lost too! thank you :o)

Beautiful chapter. Can't wait for another chapter.

So sweet in its simplicity and yet so complex in its emotions. I am totally loving how you are making everything in the books make sense and playing to its tune. I feel sometimes that you are writing from my imagination. Congrats on another great chapter; I can't wait to read the next one.

True, he could wait the three years, and write her just the same during that time... but he certainly would be missing out on those letters written with "just the right type of pen." And that would be a shame! ;)

Oh, how I loved this, especially the fact that Gilbert had read Anne's story into memory before she even showed it to him. Agh! And then the way his pen had shaken when he sent her the society report, and the explanation for why there was no letter attached. Gosh, it is these little details that fanfic is for. I always ingrain them into my mind in full assurance that that is what really happened. Didn't think about him worrying about someone else swooping in and stealing her... a real fear-can you imagine him going through that again? Now I'm wondering what it is that will make him decide not to wait a moment longer... how will he know?

I think you're doing a great job of weaving the details from the book into your storyline to make a great "in the gap" story. I'm really enjoying it. Thank you for sharing!

You captured Anne and Gilbert's relationship and self doubts so well. They really are so adorable together.

I'm enjoying your writing. It's nice to read your view of Gilbert's thoughts. Looking forward to the following chapters.

so much to love! mrs blythe is a joy to know -how interesting that she recognises herself in anne, i loved knowing that, and knowing that she had brought up her boy to admire strong, intelligent women. thought mr blythe was delicious too, all dry humour -'he doesn't look sad now...' heh heh.
and anne going to get cotton for her green dress (*that* green dress per chance?)
i must say i was really surprised by the last part. i never expected anne to just tell gilbert about roy, but it felt very credible and was very creditable, for anne to be open like that, it's exactly what you would do with a close friend, and i loved that.
'remarkably myself and free again' - i loved that line :o)
