Beautiful, and bittersweet when I consider that I know how it all will eventually end!

this is really amazing! i loved the pacing and descriptions. the idea was absolutely incredible.
in my opinion, the only thing that could have made it better would be a little epilogue where katniss meets gale in the woods, just to show how he almost took the place of her father.

You did a great job highlighting Katniss' relationship with her father.
There is a lot of implication even when you strip away Katniss' bias, that her father was not just kindhearted but extremely intelligent and a bit of a rebel in his own subtle way. The way we describes the fence, songs, and mockingjays is testament to that here. It's good that he's planting that seed in his daughter while instructing her to be careful with that.
And nicely realistic that Katniss doesn't just automatically take to the bow.

Though in the end, this is a fairly bittersweet story. Sweet in that it shows a good heartwarming interaction between a girl and her father. Bitter in that you just know what's going to happen in a very short period of time (judging by the fact that Katniss is 11 and it's already at least late fall).
But such is how things go in Panem.

This was lovely. :') I don't think this fandom has enough tales about Katniss's relationship with her father, since most of the time we're too caught up in the Everlark dynamic. (Or Galeniss, heaven forbid.) But her bond with her father is such an essential one to understanding how she was brought up and what she has become, so I think you did a fantastic job of describing this and bringing it into the light.

As always, thank you for the incredibly well-written, well-plotted piece. It was a pleasure to read. :)

You guys should really watch the 11-minute-long "The Hanging Tree" video on YouTube. I agree with SFCBruce - it's great.
