Reading this was a bittersweet walk through the love and hurt of being a brother and heir to a thrown. Each time Kili was mentioned it seemed as if he wasn't really dead, like he was pretending to be or maybe just thought he would die. It hurt to find he really was dead and Fili could feel his presence in his dark world. It hurt to learn Fili did not want to be king for everyone had done so much to save him so he could be their leader as he was ment to be. But mostly it hurt to learn that Dwalin was afraid to face him because he could not save Kili and Thorin and when he did he helped heel Fili by telling him he could not have helped either. Such a tragedy so well written it made my chest tighten with grief for a child that was gone and a child that would be king.

Ahhh I thought the dialogue with Kili seemed a bit strange until the reveal, then I went back to reread the beginning with his death in mind and it all made sense... :P
Anyways if your goal was to make me cry, you succeeded beautifully. At this point, I don't have any words to express my pain over durins dying anymore: just know this is probably one of the best hobbit fics I've ever read.

I can't even think of the words to adequately express how beautiful and painful this was.
Thank you for tearing into my heart, just to place a seed of hope there that Fíli might eventually be okay.
Argh Fíli really would be an amazing king

Ugh, Beth, you kill me. I managed to hold it together for this one, although the lump in my throat is painfully large right now. That ending was painful. Oh man how could you do this to me again. *steals Kíli from you and hides him away*
I wonder, if I hadn't already known that Kíli was dead, if I would've guessed at it. I guess we'll never know. It didn't make it any less painful, though... oh, my Fíli. Bless him. *hugs him tightly*
As always, my dear, artfully done. You're a fantastic writer. :)

Interesting.
The dialogue with dead Kili baffled me until I understood that Kili was dead.

Love where you have taken this prompt! A few points really stood out to me as I was reading this (ok, a lot of points...):
the physical ailment with the mental issues of his predecessors. Gorgeous.
that subtle yet poignant hint that Thorin died in pain and found no peace…
3.I know Kíli’s magnificent beard was coming up, but it still made me smile. Oh, the wee loon.
4.I adore the research you put into your work, down to the plants used for treatment.
Bilbo… And Ori doing the running. Love Fíli’s little quip at Bofur about the “he”. And Óin’s “deaf not stupid” comment. Oh they are all sweet.
6.Dáin, glaikit bawbag, the elves didn’t just save Fíli, their warriors also saved your sorry erse.
beating sense into Dwalin… Give me a moment to picture that…
8.Kíli’s death is really well-written. I like the combination of a heroic deed and then a pitiful end of choking on his own blood.
, you did it. Definitely beat me regarding tomb scenes! I particularly love him feeling their names. And then of course the reassurance that he is not alone, not even when he lets go of Kíli.
first thing he sees is the company. As it should be. Made me glad.

Nicely done. I'm sitting here with tears sliding down my cheeks. If only...
There is no way I'm ready for BOFA.
