Never thought of it like this before. All the little things that were repeated from one generation to the next, slowly breaking or strengthening each Dwarf. I wonder what Fili and Kili would have been like had they survived BOFA. We already saw a little of what happened to Thorin. How would his nephews have changed? How would their future generation have viewed them? And when did I turn this review into a deep psychological introspection?
Nice job! I liked the character study in this. It makes me want to scream and cry and throw a tantrum over the third movie (which, I heard today, has a 45 minute battle scene), and ... in fact, I think that's just what I'll do.

Hey, nice one-shot. I personally think that the attack on Lake town will change them. They've been in fights before, they've probably seen people get killed. But seeing a warrior killed in a battle with orcs is completely different from seeing innocent people, children, getting killed just for the sake of 's absolutely cruel what Smaug has done and of course experiencing something like that will leave its mark on the boys. I think we will see it in the movie, Aidan himself said that Kili will change during the journey and especially after what happened in Lake town.

God ;n; imagine how they will interact with each other once they meet again though... imagine Thorin seeing his boys alive after not knowing if they were burnt to a crisp (because of his fuckup) and imagine Fili and Kili seeing their uncle again and seeing him alright and seeing the guilt in his eyes and maybe he hugs them both in an uncharacteristically public display of affection i'm gonna cry (please write a second ch to this? you are so fantastic thank you ;u;)

I don't think I've ever loved a one-shot so much... this is seriously going to be one of my favorites for a long time. I love seeing both of their perspectives and how connected everything is. Terrific job!

Oh this is lovely! I have been thinking about this a lot lately... Fíli and Thorin facing similar situations some decades apart... and you capture my thoughts perfectly. Fíli really having to become a leader is beautifully realised here. Kíli, oh sweetie... Thorin dead and thinking him a failure must be his worst nightmare. And you close with one of my favourite sentiments ever - that entire thing about not knowing how you do it, but having no choice but to find out. A wonderful little piece!
